Position Overview Salary range: For Exempt: $55,000 (step 1) or $58,600 (step 2). For Non‑Exempt: $26.35/hr (step 1) or $28.07/hr (step 2). Open date: June 12, 2026 Review date: Monday, Jun 29, 2026, 11:59 pm (Pacific Time) Final date: Friday, Jun 11, 2027, 11:59 pm (Pacific Time) Position Description The Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of California, Davis invites qualified applicants for a Junior Specialist position. Candidates will work under the direction of Dr. Michelle Dossett supporting her NIH‑funded clinical trials on knee osteoarthritis and cognitive resilience in aging. The candidate will contribute in the following ways: Screening and recruiting potential participants via telephone and reviewing their medical record. Scheduling and running study visits: collecting questionnaire data and administering cognitive exams. Supporting study participant retention over the study period. Scoring tests and keeping complete and accurate records. Processing blood samples. Assisting with physiologic and video data analysis. Utilizing data management systems such as REDCap, StudyPages, and OnCore. Preparing documents and needed items for study visits. Assisting with IRB communication. Attending team meetings and collaborating with other team members and study co‑investigators. Assisting with supervising undergraduate students working on the project. Contributing to qualitative data analysis. Performing medical record reviews and periodically assisting with other projects in Dr. Dossett's lab. NATURE AND PURPOSE The Junior Specialist provides technical expertise in the planning and execution of research projects. The role requires active involvement in publishable research activities, engagement in professional societies, and review of research proposals and manuscripts. Major Responsibilities and Designated Areas of Expertise I. Research in Specialized Areas (90% Effort) Work under the direction of the Principal Investigator on research projects. Evaluation of performance includes publications, presentations, and evidence of contribution to publishable research. II. Professional Competence and Activity (5% Effort) Participate in professional societies and educational organizations. Attend related seminars and symposiums on the UC Davis Campus. Review research proposals, journal manuscripts, and publications related to the area of expertise. III. University and Public Service (5% Effort) Assist with mentoring undergraduate students under the direction of the PI. Qualifications Basic Qualifications Bachelor of Arts or Science degree in Biology, Neuroscience, Psychology or a related field. Prior research experience. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Strong writing, documentation, and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and in a research team. Technical problem‑solving ability and quick learning of new technologies. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook. Willingness to learn new research and study‑related skills. Ability to function independently in a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment and meet deadlines. Experience working with participants on sensitive issues and managing confidential information. Anticipatory project planning skills. Analytical and problem‑solving skills for identifying and resolving unique problems while maintaining protocol integrity. Administrative skills and exercise of judgment, initiative, and resourcefulness. Preferred Qualifications Experience with the REDCap database.
