Join our team as we help shape the future.The Hartford currently has an in-house opportunity for a Staff Attorney or Senior Staff Attorney to litigate cases throughout the Austin, San Antonio, Houston areas. This position is an ideal fit for an experienced Attorney with significant trial and litigation experience in construction site accidents, premise liability, products liability, and commercial automobile accidents. The Senior Staff Attorney will strive to deliver the best possible result in pending litigation. In this position the attorney reports to the Staff Legal Managing Attorney. The ideal candidate is an experienced Attorney with considerable trial experience and demonstrates the ability to independently handle cases from inception through trial.Responsibilities:Handle complex and high exposure litigationAnalyze intricate substantive and procedural legal and factual issues, conduct extensive, well-reasoned legal research, independently develop and present defense strategies on behalf of clientsPrepare complex pleadings, written discovery, depositions, motions and briefs in support of defense strategies without supervision because of level of experience and expertiseProvide effective and timely communications, information, legal advice and other services to clients and claims customers on legal and factual issues in a technology driven environmentCommunicate with the court, witnesses, opposing counsel and co-counsel in a manner consistent with established office proceduresProvide for the prompt, efficient and effective disposition of assigned casesIndependently prepare and present witnesses and evidence at trials, judicial hearings and alternative dispute resolutionsResearch, draft, file and argue appellate briefs in reviewing courts on behalf of clientsProvide opinions to Managing Attorney, staff, clients and claims customersQualifications:Note: This position may be filled as a Staff Attorney or Senior Staff Attorney commensurate with candidate's experience.Qualified Staff Attorney candidates will possess the following requirements:Juris Doctorate (JD) from accredited law school and license to practice in Texas state and local federal courtsMember in good standing of applicable Bar AssociationMinimum of 3 years of civil tort matters experienceStrong legal research and writing skillsExcellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize duties and time are a mustStrong communication, computer and technological skills and the ability to quickly leverage new software as requiredDemonstrated expertise and familiarity in the handling of claim cases and litigationQualified Senior Staff Attorney candidates will possess the following requirements:Juris Doctorate (JD) from accredited law school and license to practice in Texas state and local federal courtsMember in good standing of applicable Bar AssociationMinimum of 5+ years of civil tort matters experienceDocumented first or second chair jury trial/appellate preferredStrong legal research and writing skillsExcellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize duties and time are a mustStrong communication, computer and technological skills and the ability to quickly leverage new software as requiredDemonstrated expertise and familiarity in the handling of claim cases and litigationCore Competencies Required:Strategic ThinkingOperational ExcellenceLeadershipBusiness Knowledge and Decision MakingEffective RelationshipsExcellent writing skillsStrong communication skillsWhat Else Can You Tell Me?This position offers a remote work arrangement for candidates residing in the San Antonio, Austin, or Houston, Texas areas.CompensationThe listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition.
