Building Concrete Foreman

Summary/Objective

The Building Concrete Foreman must be a flexible, results-driven team player with the ability to manage multiple tasks, produce quality work and consistently meet deadlines. This is a supervisory position.

Essential Functions

• Perform work with tools alongside assigned crew members;
• Model correct and efficient work for fellow assigned crew members;
• Help supervise and coordinate the activities of other building and structural concrete crew members engaged in excavation, preparation, forming, placing, finishing, and stripping concrete foundations, slab on grade, slab on deck, concrete columns, concrete beams tilt up and cast-in-place walls;
• Help direct and coordinate sub contract work forces and internal employees on the placement of all poured in place, tilt up and pre-cast walls, slabs and concrete decks;
• Coordinate placement and setting forms to conform to the project schedule;
• Communicate and enforce all safety regulations;
• Monitor daily construction procedures to ensure that the highest standard of quality is maintained and that schedules are being followed;
• Inspect work performed to ensure conformance with drawings, specifications, uniform-building codes, ADA codes, local ordinances, safety regulations, policies and procedures;
• Determine sequence of construction activities and occasionally help determine crew composition and tool usage;
• Determine means and methods for daily work activities for assigned crews;
• Help oversee and direct the work of assigned crew members and allocate/delegate responsibilities on a regular basis;
• Understand and advise on the proper use of concrete add mixtures and mix designs;
• Read and understand blueprints and specifications;
• Read and understand P3 and SureTrak schedules;
• Study weekly labor and monthly total job reports carefully to determine areas needing special attention and initiate changes and procedures to bring costs back into budget;
• Advise superintendents and other members of management on workflows, work staging and crew productivity;
• Track and Forecast labor production;
• Provide the superintendent with up-to-date labor production reports and communicate production goals to crews daily;
• Provide cost estimate information for fieldwork orders;
• Order, manage and optimize the use of supplies, materials, and equipment;
• Complete and maintain daily as needed: Absence Reports, Termination Notices, Problem Discussion Forms, Injury Reports, Timecards, Daily Reports, and Concrete Pour Logs;
• Complete and maintain weekly Safety Toolbox Talks as required;
• Coordinate essential personnel on-site for the project;
• Develop, train and mentor employees; and
• Maintain a commitment to the company’s vision and spirit.

Qualifications

• Member in good standing with the local Union;
• Completion of apprenticeship program or equivalent experience;
• Ability to work within precise standards of accuracy;
• Ability to work with tools on a consistent basis to help put work into place in the field;
• Ability to follow oral and written directions, drawings and specifications;
• Ability to work well with co-workers, subcontractors, owner, architect, and inspectors and maintain working relationships for future project opportunities;
• Ability to understand drawings and how they would look as solid objects;
• Ability to build a hand-written schedule (bar chart), including a three-week short intern schedule;
• Ability to compare and recognize differences in size, shape and form of lines, figures and objects;
• Ability to work out of town and varying hours as required, including: over-time, evenings or weekends;
• Willingness to attend required continuing education classes and receive required training; and
• Willingness to attend safety meetings, monthly breakfast meetings and quarterly employee meetings.

The ability to meet the above duties will be based on the standards and guidelines set forth by Jaynes Structures’ Directors. The inability to perform the above duties will result in position and/or wage demotion and possible dismissal.

Supervisory Responsibility

The position directly supervises the positions of Carpenter Journeyman, Carpenter Apprentice, Cement Finisher, Cement Mason Apprentice and Laborer and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include 1) Training employees; 2) Planning, assigning and directing work; 3) Appraising performance; 4) Rewarding and disciplining employees; and 5) Addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. This position may be performed in outside weather conditions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use tools; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee may be required to frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The employee may on occasion need to climb and maintain body balance on ladders and scaffolding; and occasionally access multiple levels of height and depth as well as access to confined spaces.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time union position. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel

Travel is required.

Required Education and Experience

• High school diploma or GED; or
• 4+ years Journeyman or similar experience.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

1. Must pass a pre-employment screen, including but not limited to: drug and alcohol screen, background check, motor vehicle records check, reference check and physical.
2. Current and valid drivers’ license in the state of permanent residence (must be insurable by Jayne’s automobile insurance carrier in order to drive a Jayne’s vehicle).
3. Proof of current completion of a general course recognized by Jaynes in “Hazardous Substances – Recognition and Protection”, First Aid, CPR, Blood Borne Pathogens and the OSHA 10 hour class, if applicable. (Or must attend next available class.)
