Wellness Coordinator / Aquatics Instructor

Brethren Village Retirement Community, in Lititz, PA, is seeking a Wellness Coordinator / Aquatics Instructor for part-time employment. The ideal candidate will have relevant professional or volunteer experience, and enjoy interacting with older adults. The Aquatics Instructor will focus on planning and conducting water classes and activities for Residents, in our indoor pool.

The Wellness Coordinator / Aquatics Instructor works cooperatively with our small Wellness team to maintain a robust health and wellness program for Residents. The Wellness team provides services to Residents who live independently at Brethren Village, and Residents in our Personal Care and Skilled Nursing areas. The Wellness Coordinator / Aquatics Instructor supports aging‑in‑place initiatives and assists Residents to maintain mobility, balance, strength, and an overall sense of well‑being through appropriate fitness and pool activities.

The Wellness Coordinator / Aquatics Instructor plans and conducts a variety of pool classes and water activities for Residents, and supervises Residents at the indoor pool to help ensure their safety.

The Aquatics Instructor must be able to safely teach / lead fitness classes and demonstrate a variety of exercises, including in the indoor pool. Frequent standing, walking, reaching, and lifting is required, as well as teaching classes and monitoring Residents in the pool. The Aquatics Instructor must be able to perform a water rescue if needed.

Work Hours

• Part‑time: approximately 8 - 9 hours per week; Tuesdays, noon - 4:00 p.m. and Wednesdays, 7:00 a.m.- noon; additional hours may be available on occasion

Requirements

• a high school diploma or G.E.D.
• basic computer skills: the ability to access and navigate web sites, and use software, apps, and databases independently
• the ability to complete online training independently
• dependability: ability and willingness to meet attendance standards
• attention to safety: ability and willingness to consistently work in a safe and alert manner, and to report to work fit for duty; commitment to wearing protective equipment as required for the condition and adhering to all health and safety standards
• commitment to treating each Resident, Team Member, and member of the Brethren Village community with respect

Additional Requirements for This Position:

• at least 1 year of professional or volunteer experience conducting group fitness classes or swim / pool classes
• must be Lifeguard‑certified through the American Red Cross or YMCA
• must be certified in First Aid, CPR, and AED
• an understanding of the aging process and fitness activities suitable for an older adult population
• a thorough understanding of how to safely perform water exercises and how to safely use various pieces of pool equipment
• understanding of how to safely handle and store pool chemicals
• experience and effectiveness planning, coordinating, leading, and evaluating fitness / water programs and activities
• effective interpersonal and communication skills; comfort speaking in front of groups and with older adults; comfort leading group activities
• the ability to respond in a calm and appropriate manner in an emergency situation
• the ability to safely lift and move fitness equipment; stand and walk frequently during instruction; conduct a variety of fitness and water classes
