Senior Manager, Pricing and Profitability (Chicago)

Position Overview:

Our client, a top-ranked AmLaw firm, is adding a Senior Manager, Pricing and Profitability to its Chicago office. In this role, you'll own the day-to-day execution of pricing strategy while building and leading a team of pricing professionals. You'll work alongside partners and firm leadership to structure fee arrangements, shape rate frameworks, and guide pricing proposals from modeling through approval, with an eye toward both client value and firm profitability. You'll also drive process improvement and innovation across the pricing function.

Responsibilities:

• Build and lead a high-performing pricing team through coaching, mentoring, and career development
• Direct the development of hourly rate and alternative fee arrangement (AFA) proposals, including financial modeling and benchmarking
• Advise partners on fee structures, negotiation strategy, and approval policies, and engage client legal operations teams in negotiations as needed
• Evaluate fee arrangements and matter performance to strengthen profitability, competitiveness, and client value
• Serve as a key reviewer of fee proposals for practice group leaders and the pricing committee
• Help lead the annual billing rate process, overseeing benchmarking, timelines, and stakeholder communication
• Partner with business development leadership on RFP and proposal strategy, including pricing content for RFPs and fee renegotiations
• Champion process improvement and automation across pricing operations, bringing emerging trends, tools, and benchmarks to pricing leadership
• Align pricing with firm business objectives in partnership with marketing, strategic planning, and revenue teams

Qualifications:

• 7+ years of legal pricing or finance experience, ideally in a law firm environment
• 3+ years of direct management and team development experience
• Advanced proficiency in Aderant, 3E (Elite), or similar legal billing systems
• Advanced Excel skills with strong financial modeling ability
• Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field
• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to translate data into actionable pricing recommendations
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to advise and influence partners
