Contract Instructor - College

Position Overview San Diego Miramar College, a student‑ready community college, is hiring a Personal Growth Contract Faculty (Assistant Professor) to teach courses focused on college success, personal development, and related areas. The appointment is a 10‑month contract, 1.0 FTE, with an annual salary from $6,933.44 to $8,849.03 per month, plus a comprehensive fringe benefit package including medical, dental, vision, sick leave, vacation, and professional development. The role is FLSA exempt and may be assigned to any district facility or instructional modality (in‑person, hybrid, HyFlex, or fully online). Responsibilities Teach and develop courses in personal growth, college first‑year success, career development, student development, and learning strategies across the PERG subject area. Deliver lecture and laboratory formats, incorporating traditional and online methods, and infuse instructional practices that promote AI fluency. Collaborate with department and interdisciplinary faculty to design, implement, assess, and revise curricula in alignment with transfer requirements, industry needs, and emerging occupations. Maintain current knowledge of learning theory, college success principles, student identity development, and emerging classroom technologies. Participate actively in program review, curriculum development, assessment of student learning outcomes, student advisement, faculty training, and service on college‑wide committees. Support a diverse student population through accessible teaching methods, inclusive course environments, and culturally responsive pedagogical techniques. Comply with all clerical and administrative responsibilities, maintain open office hours, and engage in community outreach and co‑curricular programming. Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, or related discipline from a regionally accredited institution. Alternatively, a bachelor’s degree in an equivalent field combined with a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist credential (MFT). Desired Qualifications Three or more years of recent teaching or professional experience in personal growth, first‑year college success, career and student development, or learning strategies. Demonstrated experience working with students from diverse socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, and ability backgrounds. Proficiency in integrating AI, accessible learning structures, and open educational resources into course content. Experience in designing courses for hybrid, HyFlex, and fully online formats. Track record of building and maintaining community partnerships, including K‑12 dual enrollment initiatives. Leadership experience in collaborative program or curricular initiatives. Strong communication skills and a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of instruction. Equivalency Foreign degree holders must submit an evaluation from a NACES‑member or ACEI‑member evaluation agency to demonstrate equivalence.
