The Paralegal will have strong organizational skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects ranging from routine to those calling for independent judgment and initiative in a fast-paced environment; strong written and verbal communication skills. Must be reliable, a fast learner, self-motivated, be a team player and must have great "people skills". Have the ability to engage in a variety of tasks, including conducting research and resolving routine legal questions under the direction of an attorney on a level between the attorney and the legal secretary; and ranging from repetitive to those calling for judgment and independent initiative. Provides research and support activity and counsel and advises company personnel on routine matters. Prepares agreements, instruments, documents, and pleadings relating to litigation and non-litigation matters. Supports Legal Department administrative tasks including but not limited to outside counsel management, litigation/litigation hold management, legal invoice processing, and records management in addition to other tasks as assigned.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

• Researching claims/complaints and making recommendation in pre-litigation phase as well as with respect to matters in litigation.
• Advanced legal research and analysis.
• Assisting in reviewing and drafting documents (client correspondence, agreements, responses to interrogatories, requests for admission, requests for production, affidavits, case summaries, histories, chronologies, etc).
• Advanced management of discovery as well as reviewing legal documents.
• Interacting with internal clients in meetings and group projects; as well as possibly leading such efforts.
• Search/Compile legal research, and managing litigation docket and assist with drafting/reviewing pleadings.
• Advanced ability to collect, process and review of electronic discovery (e-discovery).
• Coordinate all aspects of hard copy and electronic document productions (scheduling, bates-stamping, photocopying/scanning, shipment, etc.)
• Assist attorney(s) in case management by organizing maintaining case files along with indexing and document retrieval systems from inception through matter resolution.
• Issuing litigation holds and maintaining litigation hold system.
• Coordinate and draft litigation reports to counsel.
• Assist counsel in resolution of matters.
• Provides guidance and assistance with respect to service of process, subpoena and garnishment matters.
• Oversight and guidance relating to the company's record retention program.
• Administration of outside counsel invoice management system (Legal Tracker), and pulling reports out of the system. Advanced analysis of trends from such reports.
• Assists in reviewing and drafting internal policies and procedures for the Legal Department and other areas of the Bank.
• Other tasks as assigned

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed to Perform Essential Functions of the Job

• Bachelor's degree or Paralegal certificated or 10+ years related work experience or paralegal experience
• Strong professional and interpersonal communication skills verbally and through written electronic correspondence.
• Must have excellent communication / organizational skills as well as attention to detail.
• Advanced problem solving, multi-tasking and strong time management skills.
• Leadership skills required.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills

Level of Complexity and Scope

• Senior level, with larger capacity for work than Paralegal I or II.

Degree of Independence and Decision-Making

• While working under the direction of an attorney, expected to exhibit independent decision making skills with minimal oversight.

Required Supervisory Responsibilities

• Expected to train and mentor Paralegal I and II; may be placed in supervisory role for these positions.

Physical Requirements

• Occasional lifting/carrying of file boxes (approx.. 25 #)
