Fire Detection Service Technician

Fire Detection Service Technician 3 Responsibilities: Receive service calls from the Service Resource Center, including a brief description of equipment/system malfunctions. Contact customer representatives to ascertain equipment or system problems. Diagnose problems and perform service and repairs on electronic fire alarm systems and related building system products at customer sites. Follow prescribed troubleshooting procedures and reference technical manuals, part manuals, bulletins, modification notices, etc. to repair equipment. Service, troubleshoot, and install various manufacturers’ Fire & Life Safety systems, including SimplexGrinnell. Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, software/systems, programs, schematics, and operational product manuals. Exhibit excellent customer service skills by consistently communicating with district staff and customers to ensure satisfaction. Complete Service Acknowledgements with proper coding through communication devices such as smartphones and laptops, and obtain customer signature upon completion. Participate in a scheduled on‑call rotation. Help to train or mentor others on the service team. Provide customers with solutions and outcomes at the time of service as a trusted advisor. Perform other duties as assigned. Troubleshoot and repair installed systems, including panel repair/re‑programming, device replacement/repair, low‑voltage circuit troubleshooting, and system testing. Organize and effectively utilize technical resources, information, material, and support to assure efficient execution of all assigned tasks. Provide recommendations and solutions to ensure facilities run efficiently, including upselling opportunities, and prepare quotes to support recommendations. Qualifications: Minimum of 3 years’ experience with fire alarm, access control, security intrusion, sound, and communications systems. Ability to interpret blueprints, diagrams, and specifications. Good working knowledge of computers. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Capability to perform physical labor, including carrying and moving equipment and tools up to 50–70 lbs. Ability to work in unusual or difficult positions, such as climbing ladders, scaffolding, high‑lift equipment up to 40 feet, working within ducts, crawl spaces, or above ceilings. Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, to meet customer requirements. Overnight travel may be required. High level of customer service. Maintain truck inventory to ensure timely response to customer needs. Adhere to, implement, and follow safety guidelines and procedures at all times. Strong organizational skills, positive attitude, and the ability to learn quickly. Possess a valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets company requirements. Maintain any licenses required by national, state, and local codes. Technical training preferred; NICET II preferred.
