Phlebotomist Position code 4606, contract with potential for permanent. Location: Owensboro, KY. Schedule: 9:30am – 6:30pm, Monday to Friday. Projected duration: 3 months, potential for permanent. Summary The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshoot, train, and make workflow recommendations. Responsibilities Experience performing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, and related tasks. Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures. Properly explains in a clear but courteous manner the process of venipuncture (blood drawing) and other specimen collection as required. Demonstrates technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Fully understands all physicians’ orders. Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, labels, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens as required by test order. Checks all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy. Packages specimens for transport. Stores specimen samples according to required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection containers, accurately labels, follows different procedures as outlined by specific protocols to maintain specimen integrity during transport. Understands and complies with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attends annual department trainings. Answers telephone calls and reads laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Qualifications Valid phlebotomy certification for the state of employment. Minimum of six months’ work experience performing venipunctures in a fast‑paced lab or hospital setting. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. High school diploma or GED. Minimum two years of experience. #J-18808-Ljbffr
