Role Description The School Cook is a full-time, on-site role based in South Daytona, FL. This role is responsible for preparing, cooking, and serving fresh daily meals in accordance with school menus, nutrition guidelines, and food safety standards. Day-to-day tasks include organizing ingredients, following recipes, operating kitchen equipment, portioning and plating meals, and maintaining a clean, safe kitchen environment. The School Cook works closely with other kitchen staff and school personnel to ensure timely meal service, accurate counts, and a positive dining experience for students. The role may also involve receiving and storing deliveries, monitoring inventory, and assisting with menu adjustments based on student feedback and dietary requirements. Qualifications Strong food preparation and cooking skills, including experience following standardized recipes and portion control Knowledge of food safety, sanitation practices, and basic HACCP principles in a commercial or institutional kitchen Ability to operate and maintain kitchen equipment safely (ovens, warmers, mixers, slicers, dishwashers) Effective time management and organizational skills to handle high-volume meal production and service Ability to work collaboratively as part of a kitchen team and communicate clearly with school staff Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift moderate weights, and work in a fast-paced environment Prior experience in school nutrition, institutional food service, or catering is preferred but not required High school diploma or equivalent; food handler or ServSafe certification is a plus Commitment to providing safe, nutritious meals and supporting a positive experience for students of all backgrounds Want to help feed the kids??
