Senior Embedded / Firmware Engineer

(RTOS, communication, critical systems, secure embedded systems)

Scope of Duties

This is not a typical embedded role. It involves designing systems, deterministic communication, real-time, and responsibility for key product elements.

You will work from low-level firmware to backend communication.

In practice this means:

• Development of firmware for security components and communication modules
• Designing and improving communication between two MCUs
• Working with real-time logic, state machines, and error handling
• Creating and maintaining hardware drivers (UART, SPI, I2C, GPIO)
• Designing and developing wireless communication systems (BLE onboarding, provisioning, data exchange)
• Ensuring stable communication with the backend through OCPP over WebSocket (or similar device-cloud protocols)
• Working on OTA and system resilience in the production environment (rollback, recovery, update security)
• Low-level debugging using professional tools (JTAG, SWD, logic analyzers, etc.)
• Designing APIs and communication layers between system modules

Technology and Architecture

The system consists of two main units:

• Security/power controller: nRF5340 or similar low-power MCU (RTOS/embedded firmware)
• Communication/application controller: i.MX RT1061 or similar application-grade MCU (RTOS/embedded Linux optional)

MCUs communicate through a proprietary protocol designed for determinism and consistency.

Communication with the backend is realized based on OCPP over WebSocket or a similar device-cloud protocol.

Requirements

• Very good knowledge of C/C++ in embedded systems
• Experience working with MCUs (e.g., STM32, nRF, ESP32, or similar)
• Knowledge of communication protocols: UART, SPI, I2C, and BLE (or other wireless)
• Experience in designing embedded systems (architecture, not just implementation)
• Ability to debug HW/SW systems (JTAG, SWD, system logs)
• Experience in designing interfaces and APIs between system components

Highly Desired

• Experience in secure embedded systems (device identity, secure update concepts, integrity, tamper resistance)
• Experience with OTA/bootloaders (rollback, recovery, update safety)
• Knowledge of RTOS systems (FreeRTOS, Zephyr, or others)
• Experience with device ↔ backend communication (WebSocket, MQTT, REST)
• Automotive/industrial embedded background
• Knowledge of provisioning systems/fleet management/BLE onboarding

Nice-to-Have (but not required)

• Experience with OCPP
• Zephyr RTOS
• Embedded Linux (Buildroot/Yocto)
