Position Overview SAFE Fire Detection is seeking an experienced Purchasing Agent to run our purchasing operations. This individual will oversee the company’s buying activities, ensuring that materials and products are sourced efficiently, cost-effectively, and in alignment with production and customer demand. The Purchasing Agent will be our sole purchasing person while working closely with management, accounting, production, and sales to maintain reliable supply levels, strengthen vendor relationships, and improve purchasing processes. This role will play an important part in managing inventory levels, identifying cost savings, and supporting the company’s continued growth. Primary Responsibilities One person purchasing department for a small local manufacturer. Re‑Organize and Improve our Purchasing Process. Perform and Analize the daily work. Provide coaching, guidance, and training to your co‑workers to ensure buyers are using company systems and purchasing processes effectively. Establish clear performance expectations and monitor results. Work closely with other departments teams to ensure purchasing activities support overall company goals. Supplier Management Analize purchasing activities to ensure materials and products are ordered accurately and delivered on time. Maintain productive relationships with existing suppliers and identify new vendors when needed. Evaluate vendor performance including product availability, reliability, and delivery timelines. Monitor market conditions and supplier changes to reduce risk and identify opportunities for cost improvement. Improve purchasing workflows and support greater accuracy and automation within our ERP and EDI systems. Inventory & Cost Control Monitor inventory levels and purchasing activity to maintain strong product availability without excessive inventory investment. Analyze purchasing data, demand trends, and forecasts to support informed buying decisions. Identify opportunities to reduce costs through supplier negotiations, process improvements, or purchasing strategies. Assist with annual forecasting and inventory planning activities. Qualifications Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, Finance, or related field experience. Minimum of 3 years of experience working in manufacturing, distribution, or wholesale environments. Experience in international business a plus Experience with Microsoft 365, OrderTime, and QuickBooks or other inventory management program is strongly preferred. Skills & Attributes Strong analytical skills with advanced Excel capabilities. Solid understanding of ERP systems and purchasing processes.
