Per Diem Hospital-Based DoulaThe Per Diem Hospital-Based Doula will join the efforts to improve birth outcomes and patient experiences for individuals delivering at Mount Sinai Health System by integrating doula services into the continuum of care for our obstetric patients.The Per Diem Hospital-Based Doula will provide ongoing, non-medical emotional, physical, and informational support to pregnant and birthing individuals and their families during the prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum periods.ResponsibilitiesProvide continuous, non-medical labor support throughout labor and delivery, including reassurance, grounding techniques, emotional support, physical comfort measures, and facilitation of communication between patients and the care teamProvide prenatal support through in-person or virtual visits, including development of birth plans, childbirth education, and emotional support for pregnant individualsProvide postpartum support to birthing individuals, including breastmilk feeding support, facilitation of skin-to-skin contact, early bonding, and newborn integrationCollaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, midwives, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, social workers and other members of the multidisciplinary care teamParticipate in clinical huddles and care coordination activities, reporting concerns and escalating issues as appropriate to ensure patient safety and complianceMaintain flexibility to meet program needs across shifts and clinical settingsDemonstrate professionalism, cultural humility, and responsiveness while working within a grant-funded programPerform other duties as assigned in support of the departmental missionQualificationsEducation RequirementsRequired :Experienced doula with demonstrated expertise in prenatal, labor, and postpartum supportHigh School Diploma or GEDProof of completion of a birth and/or postpartum doula training of at least 30 hours from Doula of North America (DONA) or equivalent recognized organization (copy of original certificate required)Short professional bioProof of at least 3 hours of breastfeeding trainingActive professional liability insurance, maintained annuallyTwo professional referencesStrong communication skillsCommitment to person-centered care and culturally responsive supportBasic computer literacyExperience RequirementsPreferredExperience in Childbirth education, labor support or breastfeeding education and supportCertified Lactation Counselor certificationMinimum of 7 attended births or postpartum families supported or equivalentAbout UsStrength through Unity and InclusionThe Mount Sinai Health System is committed to fostering an environment where everyone can contribute to excellence.
