CNC Machinist

Job Title: CNC Machinist Job Description

This role is for an experienced CNC Machinist who sets up, programs, and operates CNC equipment to produce precision parts, with a strong focus on Mazak machines and multi-axis machining. You will interpret blueprints, perform true machining (not just machine operation), and ensure parts meet exact specifications while maintaining a clean, safe, and well-organized work area on a first-shift schedule.

Responsibilities

• Study blueprints, sketches, and work instructions to determine sequence of operations, setup requirements, and machining processes.

• Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on CNC machines to produce parts to specification.

• Calculate and set machine controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, depth of cut, and angle of cut.

• Enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media according to established guidelines and procedures.

• Start up and observe machine operations to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance conditions, adjusting machine controls or programs as required.

• Set up and operate machines on trial runs to verify accuracy of machine settings and programmed control data before full production.

• Verify conformance of finished workpieces to specifications using measuring and inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and other precision instruments.

• Perform true machining work including setups and runs, rather than only basic machine operation or button pushing.

• Work with Mazak CNC lathes and mills, including 3-5 axis machining and Millturn equipment, to produce complex parts.

• Collaborate and confer with production personnel, programmers, and other team members to resolve machining or assembly issues.

• Maintain cleanliness of machinery and keep the work area organized and free of debris.

• Adhere to all safety procedures and guidelines at all times while operating machinery and working in the facility.

Essential Skills

• High School Diploma or GED.

• Minimum of 3+ years of recent CNC machining experience.

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and sketches accurately.

• Strong knowledge of CNC machines and machining processes.

• Hands-on experience working with Mazak machines, including CNC lathes and mills.

• Experience with 3-5 axis machining; 4 and 5 axis experience preferred.

• Millturn machining background.

• Ability to perform full setups and runs, demonstrating true machining skills beyond basic machine operation.

• Proficiency with measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and height gauges for inspection and quality verification.

• Familiarity with Fanuc controls; ability to work effectively with Fanuc-based equipment.

• Experience with Mazatrol and Mazatrol SmoothX Controls.

• Capability to calculate and set machining parameters (speed, feed, coolant flow, depth and angle of cut).

• Commitment to following safety procedures consistently.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with 7-axis machining is a plus.

• background in lathe and mill setup and operation.

• Comfort working with Haas and similar machining equipment is beneficial.

• Strong problem-solving skills when addressing machining and assembly challenges.

• Ability to collaborate effectively with production personnel, programmers, and cross-functional teams.

• Attention to detail and focus on quality in a precision manufacturing environment.

• Interest in aerospace or semiconductor-related manufacturing is advantageous.

Work Environment

This is a first-shift position, working Monday through Thursday from 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., providing a consistent schedule and extended weekends. The facility is climate-controlled, bright, and comfortable, featuring all LED lighting and a modern machining, assembly, and process environment. You will work with advanced CNC equipment, including Mazak machines, multi-axis and Millturn setups, and controls such as Fanuc and Mazatrol SmoothX. The workspace emphasizes cleanliness, organization, and strict adherence to safety procedures, supporting productivity and precision in a high-quality manufacturing setting.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Wichita, KS.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $52000.00 - $58240.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
