Radiologic Technologist I

The Radiologic Technologist I is responsible for obtaining diagnostic radiographic examinations at a technical level not requiring constant supervision. Produces diagnostic radiographic examinations by positioning patients and providing immobilization devices. Selects proper technical factors based on individual patient needs. Selects and operates equipment as required for specific procedures. Restricts the radiation beam through cone and collimating devices to prevent exposure of radiation to unaffected parts of the patient. Performs portable x-ray examinations in patient rooms and operating rooms. Follows operational procedures to identify patients' films with names and x-ray numbers. Marks films correctly as to the side of the patient taken. Develops exposed x-ray films by processing methods available. Completes patient requisitions with technologist initials, date, number, and size of film. Maintains an orderly x-ray room as directed. Prepares radiopaque contrast media and assists in administering radiopaque mixtures to patients. Performs administrative duties related to scheduling appointments, patient instructions, film filing, and maintenance of records. Renders services and assistance to all patients depending on individual needs. Lifts a minimum of 5 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 10 lbs., and stands a minimum of 6 hours a day. Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies care specific to those needs. Communicates with patients, parents, and primary caregivers at their level of understanding. Adheres to standards identified in organizational competencies.
