Paralegal – Toxic Tort & Product Liability Locks Law Firm – New York, NY | Full-Time | In-Person with Potential for Remote Locks Law Firm is seeking a motivated and highly capable Paralegal for our New York City office. We represent individuals and families affected by serious and rare diseases caused by exposure to petroleum-based chemicals and other toxic substances. Many of our clients worked in the automotive, petroleum, and related industries, and our cases frequently involve major oil companies and product manufacturers. This position is for someone who wants to play a meaningful role in complex litigation. The work includes substantive case development as well as day-to-day litigation support, and both require urgency, judgment, and attention to detail. Responsibilities The Paralegal will assist with all aspects of complex personal-injury and toxic-exposure litigation, including: Investigating and developing cases; Reviewing medical, employment, discovery, corporate, product, and other records; Developing detailed chronologies of employment, product use, chemical exposure, medical treatment, and other relevant events; Researching companies, products, workplaces, and potential sources of exposure; Identifying and locating witnesses and gathering information necessary to develop cases; Communicating professionally with clients, witnesses, court personnel, and others; Preparing materials for depositions, hearings, motions, and trial; Drafting correspondence, discovery, subpoenas, authorizations, and other litigation documents; Maintaining organized electronic case files and tracking deadlines; Assisting with trial preparation, including exhibits, timelines, witness materials, and document collections; and Taking ownership of projects and identifying issues that require attorney attention without waiting for instructions at every stage. The firm maintains an active trial calendar, with trials currently scheduled approximately monthly through July 2027, primarily in Philadelphia, as well as New York and other jurisdictions. Qualifications We are looking for candidates who demonstrate: A strong sense of urgency and responsibility; Prior experience as a paralegal, litigation assistant, investigator, or in a comparable professional role; Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills; The ability to work independently and manage multiple assignments; Excellent organization and attention to detail; Strong written and verbal communication skills; The ability to review large volumes of information and identify what matters; Comfort working with medical, scientific, technical, and historical information; Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic document-management systems; The judgment to recognize when something does not make sense and the initiative to investigate further; and Willingness to become deeply familiar with the facts of assigned cases. Experience in personal injury, product liability, toxic tort, mass tort, complex litigation, or plaintiff-side litigation is preferred but not required for an otherwise exceptional candidate. Each member of the office is expected to contribute meaningfully to developing our cases. We are looking for someone who is curious, resourceful, dependable, and comfortable taking initiative. The ideal candidate does more than complete assigned tasks: they understand why the work matters, identify additional relevant information, ask thoughtful questions, and help determine what should happen next. Our cases often require reconstructing events from decades ago and determining how particular products, companies, workplaces, and chemical exposures relate to an individual's disease. The ability to connect facts from different sources, recognize inconsistencies, and see the larger picture is particularly important.
