Registered Nurse Practice Specialist

As a Registered Nurse Practice Specialist at Ascension, you will serve as a clinical leader and expert resource within the Healthcare & Medical Services department, helping to shape and elevate nursing practice across our patient care settings. Ascension is one of the largest non-profit healthcare organizations in the U.S., providing compassionate, personalized care across more than 2,600 sites of care – including hospitals, senior living facilities, and clinics in 19 states and the District of Columbia. Working closely with frontline nurses, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams, you will guide the integration of evidence-based practice, clinical standards, and regulatory requirements into daily care. You will assess clinical workflows, identify opportunities for improvement, and help design and implement initiatives to enhance patient safety, quality of care, and patient and family experience. As a practice specialist, you will mentor and coach staff, serving as a role model for professional nursing practice while promoting continuous learning and reflective practice.

Your responsibilities will include supporting orientation and clinical onboarding for new nurses, coordinating and delivering competency-based education, and providing just-in-time bedside coaching to ensure safe, high-quality care. You will assist in the development, review, and implementation of clinical policies, protocols, and care pathways, ensuring alignment with current evidence, organizational priorities, and regulatory standards. In collaboration with leadership, you will participate in data collection, outcome monitoring, and performance analysis, using these insights to inform quality improvement projects and practice changes.

This position will require you to maintain advanced clinical knowledge in your specialty area, remain current on emerging best practices, and work across units or service lines as needed to support system-wide initiatives. You will be expected to build strong relationships, facilitate effective communication among care teams, and foster a culture of safety, respect, and accountability. You may participate in shared governance councils, committee work, and accreditation readiness activities.
