Field Officer

Overview MATES in Construction is an evidence-based suicide prevention and mental health program developed specifically for the construction industry. Through education, connection, community development and support pathways, MATES helps create mentally healthier, safer and more connected workplaces where workers look out for themselves and each other. The Role As a Field Officer you will play a key role in delivering and embedding the MATES model across workplaces and communities in metropolitan and regional South Australia. Deliver MATES programs including General Awareness Training (GAT), Connector, ASIST and other engagement activities Facilitate engaging conversations and learning experiences around mental health and suicide prevention Build strong relationships with workers, employers, unions and industry stakeholders Support volunteer Connector networks and workplace champions Promote awareness of available support pathways and referral services Support workplaces to embed mentally healthier workplace cultures Provide support following critical incidents in line with MATES protocols Contribute to community engagement initiatives, campaigns and organisational growth Undertake regular regional travel to deliver programs and strengthen local relationships Participate in events, workshops and industry activities across South Australia Maintain accurate reporting, records and program data About You You are authentic, approachable and passionate about making a genuine difference in people’s lives. Strong interpersonal and communication skills Excellent facilitation and presentation capability The ability to build trust quickly across diverse audiences Initiative, resilience and adaptability Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship‑building skills The ability to work independently and manage competing priorities Professional accountability, confidentiality and ethical practice A genuine interest in mental health, wellbeing and community development Confidence working within construction or similar industry environments Essential Requirements Experience in training, facilitation, workforce engagement or community development Strong communication and stakeholder management skills Ability to deliver engaging learning experiences to diverse groups Competency in Microsoft Office 365 Current unrestricted Australian Driver’s Licence National Police Clearance and Working with Children Check Willingness to undertake regular regional travel and overnight stays Desirable Experience Certificate IV in Training & Assessment Experience in mental health, suicide prevention or wellbeing initiatives Construction industry experience Knowledge of community development principles Qualifications in suicide prevention training Senior First Aid Certificate Benefits This is an opportunity to join a respected organisation making a meaningful impact across the construction industry and broader community.
