Registered Nurse (RN)

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care in an outpatient surgical center setting. The role involves assessing patient needs, delivering patient education, and collaborating with healthcare teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess and respond to the physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of patients through personal observation and interaction, advocating on behalf of the patient.
• Utilize professional nursing skills and judgment to implement nursing care based on identified problems.
• Communicate patient assessments to the appropriate individuals to ensure coordination of care.
• Demonstrate knowledge of diagnostic measures such as labs, radiology, and EKG, and possess skills in IV therapy.
• Transcribe and implement physicians' orders accurately and timely while efficiently admitting patients to the surgical center.
• Document patient clinical records with accuracy via computer, ensuring compliance with surgical procedures and completing a final review of patient records.
• Provide knowledgeable instruction and education to patients and their families.
• Manage supplies according to policy, utilizing resources effectively to control costs without compromising patient care.
• Assist with housekeeping duties as needed to maintain a clean and orderly environment for patients.
• In the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), assess and provide appropriate nursing care, maintaining airway, monitoring vital signs, and managing pain control with medication, consulting with surgeons and anesthesiologists as necessary.
• Be familiar with the patient transfer process to the medical center.
• Function as a float nurse, maintaining communication across areas and assisting staff to ensure workflow is maintained, including timely relief for breaks and lunches.
• Work in pain management and eye laser procedure rooms as assigned.
• Assist with nerve blocks and be knowledgeable about the location of emergency supplies such as the crash cart and medications.
• Participate in committee meetings, contribute suggestions for improvement, and seek guidance when needed.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Shift Information

8-hour shifts; variable start times between 0600-0700, Monday through Friday; no weekends or holidays required.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience.
• Current certifications in ACLS, BLS/BCLS, and PALS are required.
