Sanitation Equipment Operator

Solid Waste Collection OperatorPerforms intermediate semi-skilled work operating solid waste collection and transport equipment, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the assigned supervisor.Job DutiesOperates transfer truck and heavy construction equipment to transport recyclable materials, refuse and other materials to landfill, collection sites or other disposal locations.Performs large item removal/relocation as necessary.Assists with storm and natural disaster cleanup.Performs other assigned duties.Position QualificationsGeneral knowledge of the operation and servicing of automotive equipment.General knowledge of traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operation.General knowledge of safe driving practices and occupational hazards of work.Ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions.Ability to detect signs of mechanical failure of the automotive and packing equipment.Ability to read and write.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, associates and the general publicEducation, Experience and Supplemental InformationHigh school diploma or equivalent.One to three (1-3) years of experience in a related field or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.Valid North Carolina driver's license.Successful completion of In-House CDL Certification required within 6 months of hire.Equal Opportunity StatementDare County provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or genetics.Background Check StatementPosition may require a background check that may include: criminal, credit, motor vehicle, education, and sexual offender registry or based on job requirements.
