DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position focuses on maintaining, repairing, and inspecting a variety of vehicles and construction equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation. It plays an important role in keeping essential machinery ready for daily and emergency use. As a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic, you will perform the following duties:

• Vehicle Repairs: Repair and overhaul cars, trucks, tractors, and construction equipment including sweepers, mixers, and loaders
• Preventive Maintenance: Carry out diagnostics, tune ups, tire changes, and system adjustments across multiple mechanical components
• State Inspections: Complete safety and emissions inspections, ensure compliance with specifications, and prepare required records
• Equipment Diagnostics: Identify mechanical problems using diagnostic tools and determine proper repair methods and parts
• Field Adjustments: Perform adjustments and minor repairs in the field and demonstrate repair techniques to other employees
• Safety Practices: Follow safety procedures, report hazards, and maintain a clean and safe work environment

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Shifts may vary seasonally/due to weather and/or based on operational needs.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position
• Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $56,607 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Successful completion of the commonwealth's Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program; or
• Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

• This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania Class B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) and Manual Transmission Restriction (E) removed, or equivalent.
• This position requires an active Pennsylvania Class 1, Class 4, or Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
• This position requires possession of an active Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations on the first day of employment.
• This position requires employees to pass the Department of Transportation's New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period.
