The Energy Controls Supervisor - is responsible for managing, maintaining, and optimizing district-wide energy management and building automation systems, including HVAC, refrigeration, and related controls. This role ensures efficient system performance, identifies, supports cost-saving initiatives, and maintains compliance with applicable standards and regulations.

The position combines leadership in energy management with direct technical expertise in Niagara-based Building Automation Systems (BAS).

Essential Functions:

• Monitor, maintain, and optimize district-wide energy management systems, including heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment, for the purpose of ensuring efficient operation, occupant comfort, and system reliability.
• Analyze utility consumption data and billing trends to identify inefficiencies and implement cost-saving initiatives, for the purpose of reducing operational expenses and improving energy performance!
• Coordinate with utility providers to evaluate service agreements, rate structures, and energy procurement opportunities, for the purpose of securing cost-effective and reliable utility services.
• Assist in short- and long-range planning for facility system upgrades, equipment replacements, renovations, and new construction projects, for the purpose of supporting district growth, operational efficiency, and long-term infrastructure needs.
• Support energy conservation and sustainability efforts through system performance monitoring and operational improvements, for the purpose of minimizing energy waste and promoting environmental responsibility.
• Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation related to energy usage, system performance, and project planning, for the purpose of ensuring compliance, tracking performance metrics, and supporting informed decision-making.
• Navigate and manage Niagara Framework (AX/N4) systems across multiple facilities, for the purpose of maintaining reliable building automation system operations and centralized control.
• Program, configure, and optimize building automation systems (BAS), for the purpose of maximizing energy efficiency, equipment performance, and occupant comfort.
• Troubleshoot HVAC control systems including AHUs, VAVs, chillers, and boilers, for the purpose of identifying and resolving operational issues in a timely manner.
• Perform graphics updates, database maintenance, and point-to-point verification, for the purpose of ensuring accurate system functionality, communication, and user interface performance.
• Monitor system trends, alarms, and overall, BAS performance, for the purpose of identifying deficiencies, improving system efficiency, recommending improvements, and preventing equipment failures.
• Support BAS system upgrades, expansions, and commissioning activities, for the purpose of ensuring successful integration, startup, and long-term operational reliability.
• Diagnose equipment failures and coordinate necessary repairs or replacements, for the purpose of minimizing downtime and maintaining reliable facility operations.
• Schedule HVAC systems for after-hours events and facility use, for the purpose of providing appropriate environmental conditions while optimizing energy usage.
• Respond to on-call and emergency situations, for the purpose of resolving critical system issues and ensuring continuity of operations.
• Ensure proper operation of building systems through staff training and technical support, for the purpose of promoting effective system use and operational consistency.
• Coordinate with administration, maintenance teams, contractors, and IT staff, for the purpose of supporting project implementation, system integration, and efficient communication across departments.
• Maintain accurate records, logs, and documentation for compliance and auditing, for the purpose of ensuring regulatory compliance and supporting operational accountability.
• Prepare reports related to energy usage, system performance, repair activities, and maintenance history, for the purpose of tracking performance metrics and supporting informed decision-making.
• Ensure adherence to safety standards, applicable codes, and district policies, for the purpose of maintaining a safe, compliant, and efficient working environment.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications Experience with Niagara Framework (AX or N4) Strong knowledge of HVAC systems and sequences of operation Ability to read and interpret control drawings and schematics. Experience with BACnet, Modbus, or similar communication protocols Proficiency in troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and software issues Strong organizational, communication, and critical thinking skills Experience in K-12, campus, or large facility environments Familiarity with energy management strategies and analytics

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

Knowledge of energy management systems, HVAC, controls, and applicable regulations Ability to analyze data, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines. Skilled in maintaining records, preparing reports, and using relevant software. Capable of working independently and leading small teams. Strong diligence and ability to work under time constraints.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements: Combination of office and field work in a safe environment Physical activities may include lifting, walking, standing, and occasional climbing or crouching. Work distribution: approximately 50% sitting, 25% walking, 25% standing.

Experience: Job-related experience in energy management, HVAC, controls, or building automation required. Education: Relevant education or technical training in a related field preferred Clearances: Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance/Kansas Certification of Health Certification and License Technical degree or certification in HVAC, Controls, or related field / Evidence of Insurability/ Valid Driver's License
