Product Manager III, Intent Understanding & Refinement Introduction to the Team The Product Team creates high-quality end-to-end experiences for travelers, partners, and Expedia Group. We are looking for a Product Manager III to lead intent understanding and refinement across Expedia Group's Search and Recommendations experiences. Travelers often express their needs indirectly: a destination may imply a trip purpose, a collection of words may signal a preference, and an evolving session may reveal intent that was not present in the initial query. This role will help our products understand those signals, refine them into useful traveler context, and translate that understanding into better search and recommendation experiences. You will define the product strategy, operating model, and roadmap for capabilities that connect traveler intent to relevant results, recommendations, and next-best experiences. You will work across Product, Engineering, Data Science, Design, Research, and business stakeholders to make intent understanding a consistent, measurable capability across the shopping journey. In this role, you will: Establish a clear framework for representing traveler intent, including explicit queries, inferred preferences, trip context, constraints, and changes in intent throughout a session. Identify opportunities to improve how intent is captured, interpreted, disambiguated, refined, and passed to downstream experiences. Translate ambiguous traveler problems into crisp product requirements, measurable outcomes, and sequenced roadmaps. Partner with Data Science and Machine Learning teams on model objectives, feature priorities, evaluation frameworks, feedback loops, and responsible use of personalization signals. Work with Engineering and platform teams to define scalable interfaces, data contracts, instrumentation, and self-service capabilities that can support multiple brands, markets, and traveler journeys. Own and identify opportunities to improve filters categories/labels/models. Balance traveler value, business impact, technical feasibility, operational complexity, and trust when making prioritization decisions. Develop a shared taxonomy and language for intent signals and filters so that teams can align on definitions, ownership, quality, and measurement. Establish success metrics and guardrails, such as relevance, engagement, progression, conversion, satisfaction, latency, coverage, and fairness. Use qualitative and quantitative research, experimentation, behavioral data, and operational feedback to identify gaps and validate solutions. Create alignment across a complex stakeholder environment and communicate product direction clearly to senior leaders and delivery teams. Help shape the longer-term evolution of Search and Recommendations into more adaptive, context-aware, and traveler-centered experiences. Experience and Qualifications Minimum qualifications Bachelor's degree in a related field; or equivalent related professional experience 5 or more years of product management experience, including ownership of a platform or capability that other teams built on top of Demonstrated experience taking products from concept to scaled adoption Data fluency, including proficiency with experimentation tooling and the data analysis used to design and evaluate tests Experience with machine learning backed products such as ranking or recommendation systems Preferred qualifications Familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools or workflows, and with applying machine learning concepts to real world products Experience with configurable or low-code platforms where internal teams are your customer alongside the traveler Experience trading organic relevance against paid or promoted placement, or a comparable commercial tension Location expectations This role is based in Seattle, Washington only. The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $137,500.00 to $192,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $220,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role. Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
