BSI has opportunities for a Medical Assistant at multiple locations across our offices in the San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento Valley region.Position SummaryServe as a patient advocate during patient exam and treatmentInterview patients to obtain medical information and measure their vital signs, weight, and heightShow patients to examination rooms, procedure rooms or operative rooms and prepare them for the physicianRecord patients' medical history, medications, allergies, vital statistics and information such as test results in medical recordsEnsure proper consent forms are obtained prior to preparing a patient for treatmentPrepare and administer medications as directed by a physician following safety protocol of right dose, right patient, right route, right drug and noting expiration dateExplain treatment procedures, medications, diets, wound care instructions and physician's instructions to patientsHelp physician examine and treat patients, handing them instruments and materials or performing such tasks as giving injections and removing suturesUnder physician direction, authorize drug refills and provide prescription information to pharmaciesPrepare and clean exam rooms and medical equipment in between each patient and at the end of the dayAssist physician with surgical procedure while maintaining sterile fieldAssess the patient's condition throughout the exam, procedure or surgery according to the facility's policies and notify physician and RN of any indication of distressCorrectly disposes of infection waste and bio hazard materialsSchedule appointments for patientsChange dressings on woundContact medical facilities or departments to schedule patients for tests and/or admissionInventory and assess the need for instruments, supplies and equipment while keeping the room stockedPerforms accurate documentation of all procedures in a timely mannerAssist physicians in patient, employee, or visitor medical emergencies and ensure proper documentation per facility's policyInventory and order medical emergency supplies monthly and ensure all equipment is in proper working orderAdheres to all policies and procedures in performing job duties and responsibilities while supporting a culture of high quality and great customer servicePerforms other duties as neededRequired Qualification (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)High school diploma or equivalentCertified Medical AssistantCPRAdditional SkillsKnowledge of sterile technique, anatomy, and medicationsDetail oriented, professional attitude, reliableManagement and organizational skills to support the leadership of this functionAbility to follow or provide verbal & written instructions with sufficient grammar and spelling skills to avoid mistakes or misinterpretationsInterpersonal skills to support customer service, functional, and teammate support needsAble to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writingMathematical and/or analytical ability for basic to intermediate problem solvingBasic to intermediate computer operationProficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and OutlookSpecialty knowledge of systems relating to job functionKnowledge of state and federal regulations for this position; general understanding of HIPAA guidelinesAdditional Knowledge/Skills2+ years experience in a medical setting preferredDermatology experience a plusHigh level of emotional and professional maturity and strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and trust, navigate and flex to varied personalities and communications stylesUnquestionable work ethic, personal integrity, and honestyAbility to adapt and thrive in a dynamic environmentMUST HAVE FLEXIBILITY TO WORK ON SATURDAYSBerman Skin Institute believes our people are the secret to our success, and we work to create an environment where our people are appreciated, engaged, supported and rewarded.
