Part‑time Program Specialist - IRIS The College of Engineering at the University of Georgia seeks a part‑time Program Specialist to support the Institute for Resilient Infrastructure Systems (IRIS). The position involves coordinating programs, workshops, and financial tasks in a collaborative environment with IRIS staff, students, faculty, and external partners. Working Hours & Compensation: 19 hours per week, $19.90 per hour plus benefits (subject to experience). Position is open until filled. Program Summary This hourly role requires coordination of workshops, meetings, and community engagement activities, while supporting the day‑to‑day operational needs of IRIS and the Institute’s financial processes. Key Responsibilities Event Support Plan and coordinate workshops, meetings, conferences, and community outreach activities. Create agendas and share them with relevant parties. Generate calendar invites, flyers, and manage RSVPs. Oversee event reservations, catering, and logistical support. Communicate updates to attendees, presenters, and vendors. Act as the day‑of contact for event and meeting logistics. Program Coordination Assist the IRIS Managing Director and IRIS Director with office and external communications. Support day‑to‑day operations, administer tasks, and distribute documents. Collaborate with IRIS and external stakeholders on projects and initiatives. Represent IRIS, the College of Engineering, and UGA at internal and external functions. Provide backup support for IRIS staff during meetings and events. Financial & Administrative Initiatives Coordinate purchase orders, check requests, travel requests, expense statements, and reimbursements with grad students, staff, faculty, vendors, and stakeholders. Stay current with UGA and USG policies to advise faculty and graduate students on appropriate procedures. Maintain office functionality to ensure smooth operation of the IRIS team and progression of projects. Communications Initiatives Communicate regularly with project PIs regarding research and meeting activities, deadlines, and updates. Provide logistical, program, or project support updates and highlight any barriers to success to IRIS leadership. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent plus two years of related experience. Preferred Qualifications Experience or knowledge in research and program management. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a customer‑service focus. Independent problem‑solving ability. Understanding of institutional policies and procedures for projects and funding. Capability to build and maintain working relationships with university personnel, state, federal agencies, and private organizations. Knowledge of the USG/UGA financial system (P.O.s, check requests, travel, reimbursements, etc.). Physical Demands Standard office environment.
