Clinical Nurse (RN) - Neurosurgery (AAU L6) - 0.9 FTE, 12-HR, Day Shift

This position is a clinical nurse (RN) who provides hands‑on care to patients in an evidence‑based manner, within the scope of practice of the California Nursing Practice Act. Overview The Clinical Nurse practices the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation, and coordinates care with other providers. The role emphasizes family–centered care, teaching patients and families, and ensuring quality nursing care. What You Will Do Establish Therapeutic Relationships – create a healing climate, provide emotional support, guide patients through illness and recovery, and mobilize strengths. Diagnose and Monitor – obtain assessment data, interpret it, determine diagnoses, and monitor patients appropriately. Plan and Implement Interventions – collaborate with team, create individualized plans, safely implement interventions, and evaluate outcomes. Teach and Coach – assess learning needs, teach patients, families, and staff, adjusting information based on response. Respond rapidly to changing situations, activate emergency protocols, and ensure rapid and effective care. Monitor and maintain quality practices, identify opportunities for improvement, and assist in quality monitoring. Prioritize work, delegate tasks, and integrate multiple requests while maintaining positive morale. Participate in shared governance, contribute to professional development, and share expertise through teaching or presentations. Demonstrate professional practice evaluation and lifelong learning. Qualifications Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution (preferred). Experience: 2 years of RN experience in an acute‑care setting (required); 1 year of Medical‑Surgical Nursing (strongly preferred); neuro experience preferred. Knowledge & Skills: Effective communication in English, ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, knowledge of California nursing regulations, and competence in basic patient assessment. Abilities: Critical thinking, decision‑making, adaptability, and the ability to handle rapid changes and emergencies. Licenses & Certifications Current California Registered Nurse (CA‑RN) license. Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Current American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (may be required). Current National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification (may be required). Physical Demands & Work Conditions The role involves frequent lifting of patients and equipment, bending, stooping, and walking. The environment presents moderate risks such as exposure to contagious disease, radiation, and emotionally disturbed patients. Protective clothing and safety precautions are routinely used.
