Live Safety Broadcaster
$70k - $120kCitizen
Why this role exists Citizen protects the world by getting real, verified safety information to people the moment it matters. Our Mission Control team is the human engine behind that: monitoring incidents across the country, verifying what's real, and deciding what millions of people need to know right now. We're now doing something no safety company has done: putting Mission Control on air. When a major incident unfolds, our broadcasters don't just push an alert. They go live on video, narrating events in real time to hundreds or thousands of Citizen users tuned in. Our first live broadcasts (a citywide manhunt that drew roughly a million viewers and became the subject of a documentary) proved the model. This role scales it. You are the face and voice of Citizen in the moments people care about most. Half operator, half broadcaster, fully committed to the mission. What you'll do 1. Run Mission Control Monitor live incident feeds, scanner audio, user video, and data streams across multiple markets. Verify incidents fast and accurately: confirm what's real, flag what isn't, protect against panic and misinformation. Author and send incident titles, updates, and push notifications that meet Citizen's editorial standards: lead with the live danger, keep users spatially aware, and prompt safe participation. Coordinate with field creators, users going live, and partner responders to build a real-time picture of active scenes. Hold the line under pressure: stay calm, clear, and accurate while a situation is still unfolding. 2. Go on air Broadcast live from the Mission Control studio during major incidents, narrating events in real time to a live audience of hundreds to thousands of users. Deliver clear, credible, human commentary on camera: explaining what's happening, what's verified, what's still unknown, and how the community can safely help. Drive live participation: prompt viewers to look around, go live, and contribute to a real-time "transparency zone" that aids the public and first responders. Interact with the live audience: read the room, respond to comments and community reports, and keep viewers engaged without ever sacrificing accuracy or dignity. Build a following. Over time, become a recognizable, trusted on-air presence that people tune in for. 3. Grow the format Partner with the content and social teams to turn live broadcasts into clips, highlights, and cross-platform moments. Help refine the on-air playbook: pacing, tone, what works on camera during a real incident, and what doesn't. Who you are The broadcaster half: A personality that comes through on camera. Warm, credible, watchable. People trust you and want to keep listening. You know how to live stream. You're comfortable on camera, in the moment, unscripted, for extended stretches. Social media savvy. You understand what makes live content land, how audiences behave, and how a moment travels. Quick on your feet verbally. You can narrate a developing situation clearly and hold an audience while doing it. Comfortable being a public face. This role is visible by design. The operator half: Sharp judgment under pressure. You stay calm when the situation isn't. Fast, accurate, and detail-obsessed. You never upgrade a rumor into a fact. Deeply mission-aligned. You understand that real people are on the other end of every incident, and you treat that with the seriousness it deserves. The background we'd expect Live broadcast / on-camera hosting: local news, weather, sports sideline, live event hosting, or live shopping. If you can talk fluidly and unscripted while things are moving, that's the skill. Creator / streamer: Twitch, YouTube Live, TikTok Live, or IRL streaming. If you've held a live audience solo, read the chat, and improvised in real time, you already do half this job. Real-time operations: 911 dispatch, EMS or fire communications, a newsroom assignment desk, or a security operations center. This is the composure-under-pressure, verify-fast half. The unicorn: someone who's done both, a dispatcher who streams, or a field journalist who's gone live from breaking scenes. Rare, and exactly who we're looking for. On social presence: we're not counting followers. We want evidence you can hold a live audience and that you're watchable and trustworthy on camera, including how you handle serious or sensitive subjects. A creator with a small, genuinely engaged live audience beats a large, passive following every time. An existing interest in public safety, city news, or community is a plus. The filter, honestly: can you run the room, and would someone stop scrolling to watch you? The hard line This is a public safety role first. Accuracy, verification, privacy, and dignity are never traded for views. We do not sensationalize suffering, we do not push unverified claims, and we do not put anyone, viewers or the people in an incident, at risk for engagement. The audience is earned by being useful and trustworthy, not by being loud. Details In-office in New York; this role works from the Mission Control studio. Shift-based coverage, including some evenings and weekends. Incidents don't keep business hours. Comfort being on camera and building a public presence is a core requirement, not a nice-to-have. Citizen is building the first truly AI-native, real-time public safety company. This is a founding role in a new category of work: the live safety broadcaster. If you can run the room and own the camera, we want to meet you. Salary Range This role offers a base salary of $70,000–$120,000 per year, plus equity. Compensation & Benefits At least one fully employer-sponsored medical plan option Dental and vision coverage, with a small employee contribution Unlimited PTO Up to 14 weeks paid parental leave (for all parents) Monthly tech stipend Free mental health support Hybrid work environment + catered lunches (NYC HQ) Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at Citizen Citizen is an equal opportunity employer. We’re building a team that reflects the diversity of the communities we serve — across race, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, ability, and background. We know that diverse teams make better decisions and build more effective products. If you don’t meet every listed qualification, we still encourage you to apply. Skills, potential, and lived experience matter. #J-18808-Ljbffr Citizen
