School NurseThe School Nurse is responsible for direct and indirect nursing care to enhance the wellbeing, academic success, and life-long achievements of students. The School Nurse facilitates positive student responses to normal development, promotes health and safety, intervenes with actual and potential health problems, provides case management services, and actively collaborates with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self-management, self-advocacy, and learning.Primary functions of the job include assessing and evaluating students' health, maintaining health records, coordinating health resources, developing individual health care plans, providing emergency care, administering medications, performing mandated screenings, documenting information in student records, conducting home visits, preparing reports, notifying individuals of health concerns, participating in school health activities, promoting health education, and initiating disease prevention programs.Key responsibilities of the job include providing optimum quality of health care to students, participating in nursing care, promoting student and family education, conducting self in a professional manner, and reporting to Nursing Administration and the building principal.Qualifications include a current valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts, a minimum of one to two years of child health or related field, current certification in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, and DOE certification or certifiability in educator category, Nurse, All Levels.About our District: Springfield Public Schools is a cultural gem in Western Massachusetts committed to providing a learning environment that opens the doors of infinite possibilities to students and staff.
