ABA Specialist

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Behavior Intervention & Instructional Support

Implement individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and educational programs developed by the BCBA and IEP team.
Utilize Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) strategies and evidence-based interventions to increase appropriate behaviors and reduce challenging behaviors.
Support students in developing communication, social, adaptive, and self-regulation skills.
Reinforce academic and behavioral goals throughout the school day.

Data Collection & Documentation

Collect, record, and maintain accurate behavioral and instructional data.
Monitor student progress toward behavioral and educational goals.
Prepare summaries and reports for review by the BCBA, teachers, and IEP teams.
Maintain confidentiality of all student records and information in compliance with FERPA, IDEA, and South Carolina Department of Education guidelines.

Collaboration & Team Support

Collaborate with special education teachers, general education teachers, administrators, related service providers, and families to support student success.
Participate in team meetings, trainings, and professional development activities.
Assist with Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and behavior observations.
Provide classroom staff with support in implementing behavioral strategies consistently across environments.

Crisis Prevention & Safety

Implement de-escalation and crisis intervention strategies in accordance with district procedures and training protocols.
Maintain a physically and emotionally safe learning environment for students and staff.
Utilize approved physical management techniques when necessary and properly trained (e.g., CPI or district-approved crisis intervention program).

Qualifications

Education

High school diploma or GED required.
Master's degree in education, psychology, behavior analysis, special education, or related field.

Certification & Licensure

Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) preferred or required.
CPI or district-approved crisis prevention/intervention training preferred.

Experience

Experience working with children or students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), developmental disabilities, or behavioral challenges preferred.
Experience in educational, clinical, or therapeutic settings preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles and behavioral intervention strategies.
Ability to work effectively with students exhibiting challenging behaviors.
Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
Ability to follow directions and implement behavior plans with fidelity.
Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and move throughout school environments for extended periods.
Ability to lift, assist, or escort students when necessary in accordance with training and district procedures.
Ability to respond quickly in crisis situations.

Working Conditions

School-based setting with exposure to a variety of student behaviors and classroom environments.
Standard Monday Friday work schedule following the district academic calendar (typically 180 190 days).
Typical work hours are approximately 7:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., subject to district assignment.

Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the South Carolina Department of Education and district evaluation procedures.
