It is the foundation of The Memorial Experience.Summary:Facilitates the safe and efficient performance of surgical procedures.Responsibilities:Precept and mentor new staff members, fostering skill development and support orientation and onboarding.Handles, labels, and processes surgical specimens according to established protocols for safe and accurate delivery to the laboratory.Prepares the operating room by setting up sterile fields with drapes, solutions, instruments, equipment, and supplies tailored to each case.Anticipates the needs of the surgical team by passing instruments, supplies, and equipment efficiently during procedures while maintaining strict sterile technique.Collaborates with the sterile processing team to decontaminate, prepare, and sterilize surgical instruments and supplies.Contributes to a safe and supportive environment by adhering to infection prevention, patient safety, and quality standards.Verifies that surgical instruments and equipment are functioning properly and promptly reports or addresses any issues.Monitors and accounts for instruments, sponges, and supplies throughout each procedure to ensure patient safety.Assists nursing staff in direct patient care, including preparation, transport, positioning, and draping of patients for surgery.Competencies:ACCOUNTABILITY, CLINICAL POLICIES AND STANDARDS, CUSTOMER SERVICE, EQUIPMENT STERILIZATION, PATIENT AND FAMILY CENTERED CARE, PATIENT SAFETY - NURSING, RESPONDING TO CHANGE, STANDARDS OF BEHAVIOREducation and Certification Requirements:Accredited Program: Surgical Technologist (Required)BLS American Heart E-Card (BLS AHA ECARD) - American Heart Association (AMERICAN HEART), BLS American Heart RQI E-Card (BLS AHA-RQI ECARD) - American Heart Association (AMERICAN HEART), BLS Cert American Heart_non ecard (BLS AHA) - American Heart Association (AMERICAN HEART), BLS Certification Grace (BLS GRACE) - Employee Grace Period for Essential Credential (GRACE), BLS Cert Red Cross (BLS RC) - Red Cross (RED CROSS)Additional Job Information:Complexity of Work: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision with a positive disposition.
