Material Handling Specialist

Job Title: Material Handling Specialist Classification: Non-exempt Reports To: Supply Chain Manager Position Type: Full-time Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Work Location: Headquarters, Kansas City, MO Job Summary The Material Handling Specialist will transport materials throughout the production facility to designated locations. This role also includes inventory management, shipping and receiving and material acquisition and distribution and responsibilities. Essential Functions Transport materials, supplies and finished goods and record material movements in timely manner to keep and update inventory count Verify incoming shipments for quality and accuracy, review accompanying documents for accuracy, receive material into inventory and maintain appropriate records Properly identify and store materials in correct and secure locations Pick, pack and dispatch materials to support the manufacturing process Collaborate with internal departments to locate missing material, fix incorrect shipments and replace damaged product Assist in conducting physical inventory and cycle counts, and with routine audits of inventory records Prepare material for shipment, perform shipping transactions and maintain resulting records When problems arise, work with the supply chain team to resolve issues with contractors or vendors Utilize material handling equipment such as carts, hand trucks, pallet jacks, forklifts, etc. to transport materials and perform safety checks on that equipment Safely operate company vehicles on and off company premises for the purpose of pick-up or delivery of materials and parts Maintain a safe and clean work environment by removing and disposing of packaging and shipment waste from work areas and performing general warehouse housekeeping tasks Participates in process improvement projects, including Lean and Six Sigma initiatives Applies Kaizen principles to identify areas for continuous improvement and implement strategies to optimize procurement processes, reduce costs and improve efficiency Uses 5S methodology to organize and maintain a clean, efficient workplace Supports established safety and health standards to keep the organization accident-free Collaborates effectively with all departments to achieve operational excellence and ensure alignment with organizational goals Competencies Product expertise Attention to detail Communication skills Organizational skills Problem Solving skills Supervisory Responsibilities: None Work Environment Manufacturing Plant Environment: 100% Personal Protective Equipment recommended and/or required on the production floor: Safety glasses, or prescription safety glasses that meet ANSI Z 87.1-2020 Hearing Protection that meets ANSI S 12.6-2016 Steel-toed shoes with anti-slip soles that meet ASTM F2413-2018 Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Required Education/Experience/Certifications High school diploma or equivalent required 2+ years of related experience required Experience in record keeping, data entry and stock management Strong verbal communication skills Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail Good math and written communication skills Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software Efficient time management skills Valid Driver’s License Preferred Education/Experience/Certifications College coursework or other formal training in related field preferred 1-5 years of experience operating heavy equipment and working in a warehouse and/or manufacturing setting Forklift certification Knowledge of OSHA and regulatory requirements Utilization of MRP/ERP software and applications such as Sage, SAP, Oracle, or Syteline Experienced in 5S methodology with demonstrated proficiency in organizing and maintaining a clean, efficient workplace Experience in Kaizen principles and practice, including the ability to identify continuous improvement opportunities and implement effective solutions Experience in an ISO 9001:2015 environment Bilingual: English/Spanish Travel Requirements Occasionally required – up to 10%, in a company provided vehicle (to pick up, deliver items) Other Duties This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee.
