Python Data Engineer

Now Hiring: Python Data Engineer Location: Houston, TX (in office 5 days/week) A leading global commodities and energy trading firm is looking for a talented, motivated Python Data Engineer to help expand its data assets in support of its analytical capabilities. This full‑time role interfaces directly with traders, analysts, researchers, and data scientists to drive out requirements and deliver a wide range of data‑related needs. WHAT YOU'LL DO Write modular, reusable components to liaise between external data sources, internal tools, and databases. Work with business sponsors to drive out requirements for data ingestion and access, and translate business requirements into technical deliveries. Maintain the cleanliness and centrality of the firm’s Python codebase, adhering to existing designs and coding conventions. Contribute to the firm’s developer tools and Python ETL toolkit, including standardization and consolidation of core functionality. Coordinate efficiently with a global team. Participate in the firm’s Python development community and act as a liaison for growing business‑development efforts. WHAT THE TEAM IS LOOKING FOR (Must‑Haves) 5–8+ years of professional experience in enterprise‑level Python development. Demonstrated ability to design and build new data / ETL pipelines. Hands‑on experience with Pandas (and familiarity with NumPy). Recent commodity trading / oil & gas, or large banking firm, experience. Computer Science, MIS, or a related degree. Experience scraping websites with Requests, Beautiful Soup, Selenium, etc. Oracle / PL‑SQL development experience, including stored procedures. Strong understanding of object‑oriented design, design patterns, and SOA architectures. Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment. Proficiency with peer review, code versioning, and bug/issue‑tracking tools. Strong written and verbal communication. A stable work history with solid tenure at one or a few companies. NICE TO HAVE Familiarity with containerization solutions like Docker and Kubernetes. Broader commodities / energy industry experience. GOOD TO KNOW This is a hands‑on enterprise Python engineering role — it is not a data scientist, cloud engineer, or Azure‑focused position. Best suited to candidates with a track record of full‑time tenure rather than primarily consulting or long‑term contracting backgrounds. This role operates in a professional, collaborative, fast‑paced office environment and is fully onsite (5 days/week).
