Most importantly, you'll have the chance to make a real and measurable impact on the lives of Hoosiers across Indiana.About the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC): The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission is an administrative agency that hears evidence in cases filed before it and makes decisions based on the evidence presented in those cases. An advocate of neither the public nor the utilities, the Commission is required by state statute to make decisions in the public interest to ensure the utilities provide safe and reliable service at just and reasonable rates.Role OverviewThe Paralegal / Legal Assistant coordinates all activities for case hearings and maintains calendars, schedules, service lists, docket entries, and orders. This includes electronic processing of all filings to and from the Commission in docketed proceedings and updating the case management system. You will assist with drafting legal documents and may also be assigned legal and records research projects. You will work closely with Administrative Law Judges, Commissioners, and technical staff.Salary: The salary for this position traditionally starts at $50,666.00 but may be commensurate with education and work experience.A Day in the LifeResponsibilities include: Provide accurate and efficient administrative support for Administrative Law Judges (ALJs). Ensure that IURC requirements are met for the timely and proper disposition of cases. Provide routine clerical support such as filing, mailing, and faxing. Maintain notification, publication, and calendaring of hearings and conferences in docketed proceedings. Proofread, format, and circulate Orders for Conference. Draft simple or routine docket entries. Perform legal research. Process electronic filings and update the electronic database. Maintain confidential records.What You'll Need for SuccessCredentials: Undergraduate degree, paralegal associate degree, paralegal certification, or at least five years of experience working in a legal office environment in a position of trust with senior management in either the public or private sector. Additional qualifications: Able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Able to maintain situational awareness, respond to customers in a professional business manner, and engage others in reaching positive solutions. Excellent time management skills and able to meet deadlines. Proficient in Microsoft 365 Productivity Software including Work, Excel, Outlook, Sharepoint, PowerPoint, Dynamics, and Copilot.
