Now Hiring: Beacons Center Youth Counselor Hourly Pay Range: $17.50 – $18.50 Status: Part-Time Location: Franklin Middle School, Minneapolis Public Schools / YWCA Minneapolis Number of Openings: 2 What You’ll Do: As a Beacons Center Youth Counselor , you’ll provide direct service to participants in the Beacons Learning Center at Franklin Middle School. Beacons provides after-school academic and enrichment opportunities with a focus on inspiring youth to make positive decisions for themselves and their futures to students in grades 6-8th. Plan, prepare and facilitate/co-facilitate age appropriate and culturally informed educational activities utilizing and/or creating Youth Development curriculum Support in recruiting and maintaining program participants Help develop and maintain a safe learning environment that is student-centered, mission-focused, and accessible to a diverse student body Support communication and retention with participants and families Track program attendance daily and enter information into database on regular basis Participate in educational activities and trainings for professional and programmatic development including attending and participating in departmental and Beacons program team meetings Additional duties as assigned Schedule School Year: Monday – Thursday –3:00PM - 6:00PM Summer: Hours subject to change based on summer activities and program need Who You Are: You are interested in serving the community of Franklin and have familiarity working with diverse school populations. You enjoy teaching and thinking about how to make programming both engaging and educational. You are interested in learning and growing in a team-based environment. Core Competencies Relationship Building: You enjoy building strong relationships with elementary aged youth Consistency: You are reliable and show up on time and prepared Growth Mindset: You take advantage of opportunities for growth; feedback is a tool for improvement not a set back Cultural Responsiveness: You engage effectively with youth and families from a variety of racial, ethnic, and economic backgrounds Communication: You are comfortable with communicating your needs and challenges to your supervisor and working collaboratively to address them Accountability: You take personal responsibility for your actions Qualifications Required High School Diploma/GED One year of experience working with youth from low-income and inner-city families One year of experience planning and facilitating effective, structured groups Strong oral, written and presentation skills Ability to carry out duties independently, as well as in team setting Ability to work with a variety of cultures, backgrounds and perspectives Proficiency in Microsoft 365 CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain) Belief in the mission of the YWCA Minneapolis and able to convey its importance Why YWCA Minneapolis When you work here, you’re joining a movement.
