INVENTORY SPECIALIST

Reports to: Store Manager or Assistant Manager on Duty

Classification: Non-Exempt/Hourly - FULL-TIME

Job Summary:

The Inventory Specialist is responsible for maintaining accurate inventory levels and overseeing all inventory movement within the location. This role analyzes shrink trends, identifies operational opportunities, and supports overall inventory integrity through cycle counts, reconciliations, receiving processes, and collaboration with store leadership and purchasing teams.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and committed to improving inventory accuracy and operational efficiency.

Essential Functions:

1. Serve as the location's primary inventory expert, monitoring and reviewing all inventory movement into and out of the facility.
2. Analyze shrink data to identify trends, problem areas, and opportunities to improve loss prevention awareness and operational performance.
3. Identify procedural deficiencies and communicate policy, compliance, and process improvement opportunities to Store Management.
4. Conduct regular physical inventory checks and cycle counts across all departments to ensure inventory accuracy.
5. Research, document, and report inventory variances and major discrepancies to management and Purchasing teams.
6. Review and reconcile negative inventory counts to ensure accurate product availability.
7. Monitor out-of-stock reports and partner with Store Management and Purchasing to improve in-stock conditions.
8. Receive and process all direct shipments, ensuring all receipts are accurately entered into inventory systems.
9. Inspect incoming product for damages, expiration dates, and shipment discrepancies.
10. Process inventory adjustments including count corrections, expired product, buybacks, and other inventory transactions.
11. Verify and post transfers between locations accurately and timely.
12. Participate as a key contributor in annual physical inventory activities.
13. Consistent attendance for regularly scheduled work shifts is required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Advanced understanding of retail operations with 2+ years of retail experience preferred.
• Knowledge of Farm & Home products and merchandise is preferred.
• Knowledge of inventory management and point of sale (POS) systems preferred.
• Ability to learn how to use the company's ERP system (as needed)
• Knowledge of applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Exceptional communication and people skills
• Attention to detail.
• Ability to work with groups of individuals as well as independently.
• Contribute to a positive working environment.
• Ability to operate computers and other commonly used retail equipment.
• Ability to stand and work on feet for extended periods of time.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. This position is highly active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds, occasionally engaging in assisted lifting over 50 pounds, specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
