RN 1 Job Description

The RN 1 serves as a member of the interdisciplinary team performing various nursing duties, including coordinating and monitoring all aspects of medical care for residents.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Provide direct nursing care to residents, including comprehensive nursing assessments, administering medications, implementing physician's treatment orders, transcribing orders, and collecting specimens for laboratory analysis or culture.
• Provide health education to residents, their guardians and staff and participate in interdisciplinary support plan meetings.
• Represent nursing on the resident's support team, provide information on nursing needs, consult and coordinate with support teams and other health care disciplines to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate resident's care.
• Provide first aid and emergency nursing care.
• Assess, monitor and document resident's symptoms, conditions, and care, including diet and physical activity. Identify and report resident's responses to medications or changes in health status.
• Monitor resident's medication, ensuring medications are ordered and available for administration.
• Meet documentation standards regarding transcribing physician's orders, nursing progress notes, health charts and support plans.
• Acts as a liaison to community providers to ensure continuity of care, follow up with community providers, when necessary, advocate for resident's needs.
• Participate in discharge planning by securing community appointments to ensure continuity of care.
• Prepare and maintain accurate and detailed reports electronically using Excel and or Word.
• Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment.

Qualifications:

To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS, candidates must meet the open-competitive minimum qualifications for this position. The qualifications are: Possession of a license and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State.

Salary schedule for the position is as follows: $111,147-$120,138 - posted hiring salary includes the sum of the statutory hiring rate for PS&T Grade 18 and Geographic Differential ($35,000). Employees hired for this shift (2 pm – 10 pm) will qualify for a shift differential (+7%) and inconvenience pay (+$575). Shift differential applies to four or more hours between 4pm-12am; and inconvenience pay applies to those who work four or more hours between 6PM and 6AM.

Background investigation requirements:

• For Division of Juvenile Justice and Opportunities for Youth (DJJOY) prospective appointees will be checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable.
