Learning Specialist

Position Summary The Learning Specialist is responsible for providing leadership, coordination, and support for students with learning differences, their families, and faculty. This role includes direct student support and faculty professional development. The Learning Specialist ensures that all students have equitable access to the curriculum and are supported in their academic and personal growth. Duties and Specific Responsibilities Leadership & Program Management Support the Academic Resource Center (ARC) by developing curriculum, collecting data, and evaluating programs to foster independent learning and academic success. Work closely with the Resource Teacher assigned to ARC. Coordinate the Peer Tutoring program. Collaborate with Admissions to evaluate applicants’ needs and support the transition of students with learning differences. Student Support & Case Management Develop, implement, and monitor Personal Learning Plans (504s) for students with documented learning differences or other disabilities. Develop, implement, and monitor Temporary Medical Accommodation plans, including concussions, in collaboration with counselors. Conduct regular meetings with students on caseload to assess progress and adjust support as needed. Works collaboratively with their assigned counselor. Coordinate and implement the Response to Intervention (RTI) process to systematically identify students in need of academic support, design targeted interventions, and monitor student progress. This can include SST meetings and/or referrals for students in need of educational testing or other evaluations. Serve as a resource for students and families, providing guidance on learning strategies, accommodations, and community resources. Ensure compliance with legal and ethical guidelines regarding student accommodations and confidentiality. Faculty & Staff Collaboration Provide professional development and coaching for faculty and staff on differentiation, inclusion, and best practices for supporting diverse learners. Collaborate with teachers to adapt curriculum, assessments, and instructional strategies to meet individual student needs. Testing & Accommodations Oversee the implementation of testing accommodations for classroom and standardized assessments in collaboration with the Testing Center Coordinator. Manage accommodation requests for standardized testing (College Board and ACT). Communication & Collaboration Maintain open and ongoing communication with students, parents, faculty, and the VP of Student Services regarding student progress and program effectiveness. Attend and contribute to leadership, department, and cross-curricular meetings to advocate for students with learning differences. Perform other duties as assigned and as needed by the school or department. Education & Experience B.A. degree and single-subject teaching credential or Master's Degree. Coursework and experience with Special Education required. Relevant teaching experience, preferably 5 or more years at the high school level. Excellent organization, verbal, written, and outstanding interpersonal skills. Strong understanding of 504 plans and IEPs. A willingness to be an active, enthusiastic member of the Presentation community. A deep commitment to professional growth and interest in educational technology. Knowledge of the latest pedagogy for effective classroom instruction and student learning. Available and willing to work occasional co‑curricular events, including overnight field trips. Physical Demands Considerable time is spent at a desk using a computer terminal. May be required to travel to other buildings on the campus. May be required to attend conferences and training sessions within the Bay Area or in/out-of-state locations. Sit, stand, walk, climb stairs or ladder, reach, perform repetitive hand motions. Offices with frequent interruptions. Compensation Presentation High School provides pay ranges that represent its good faith estimate of what the school reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget, internal equity, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
