NOVA Engineering & Environmental is seeking an Environmental Field Technician to support petroleum remediation projects under the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Petroleum Restoration Program (PRP). This is a hands-on, field-based role where you will work on sites impacted by petroleum, helping monitor and operate cleanup systems while collecting environmental samples. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, has strong mechanical skills, and wants to build a career in environmental remediation and consulting.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate and monitor remediation systems that clean up petroleum-impacted soil and groundwater
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on pumps, blowers, piping, and related equipment

  • Support project teams with site work, inspections, and coordination with contractors

Remediation System Work:

This role requires basic electrical awareness and troubleshooting skills related to remediation systems:

  • Use a multimeter or clamp meter (RMS) to check voltage and verify equipment is powered
  • Take amp readings and confirm systems are operating within expected ranges
  • Understand the difference between:
    • Single-phase power (e.g., 240V 1P)
    • Three-phase power (e.g., 208–240V 3P)
  • Be able to identify and understand basic electrical components such as:
    • Disconnects
    • Breaker panels
  • Recognize whether power is present or disconnected at a system based on field conditions and visual indicators
  • Assist in diagnosing common issues such as loss of power, tripped breakers, or equipment not starting

Note: This is not an electrician role, but candidates should be comfortable working around electrical systems and performing basic troubleshooting safely.

Health, Safety & Compliance:

  • Follow all Health and Safety Plans (HASP) and company safety procedures
  • Work in compliance with FDEP PRP requirements
  • Properly manage investigation-derived waste (IDW)
  • Participate in safety meetings and site inspections

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED (Associate's degree preferred)
  • 1–3+ years of environmental field or construction-related experience
  • Experience collecting environmental samples (groundwater, soil, or similar)
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working with tools and equipment
  • Ability to work outdoors in Florida conditions (heat, humidity, uneven terrain)
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record

Preferred:

  • Experience supporting FDEP PRP projects
  • Hands-on experience with remediation system operation and maintenance
  • OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER (or willingness to obtain)
  • Experience using field instruments (meters, probes, gauges)
  • Basic understanding of electrical systems and troubleshooting

Work Environment:

  • Majority of work performed outdoors at active project sites
  • Travel to sites across Florida
  • Physically active role including lifting, bending, and equipment handling
