Senior Instrumentation Engineer

Job DescriptionStepan Company is hiring a Sr. Instrumentation Engineer position at our Millsdale, IL site. The Senior Instrumentation Engineer is responsible for ensuring the reliability, safety, and performance of the site's instrumentation, analyzer, control valve, PLC, networking, and process control systems. This role provides technical leadership for plant instrumentation assets, supports maintenance and operations, drives reliability improvements, supports capital projects, and promotes compliance with company standards, process safety requirements, and applicable industry codes and standards.The role is intended to provide dedicated site-level ownership for instrumentation reliability, controls support, project technical review, and E&I execution support across operating units. The position balances hands-on troubleshooting with longer-term reliability improvement, standardization, and risk reduction.The position serves as the site subject matter expert for instrumentation and process measurement technologies while collaborating with Maintenance, Operations, Process Engineering, Projects, and E&I personnel to improve plant reliability and reduce operational risk.Qualifications• Required competencies include sound engineering judgment, strong troubleshooting discipline, clear technical communication, ownership of assigned actions, ability to influence without direct authority, and the ability to balance urgent plant support with long-term reliability improvement work.• Minimum of five years of industrial instrumentation experience.• Experience supporting chemical, petrochemical, refinery, manufacturing, or other process industries preferred.• Demonstrated experience with control valves, process instrumentation, industrial networks and communication systems, PLC/DCS environments, capital projects, and reliability engineering.Preferred experience with the following technologies, systems, and methods:• Emerson DeltaV and Rockwell Automation systems.• DeviceNet, HART, wireless instrumentation, and related industrial communication networks.• Instrument calibration and asset management systems.• SAP Plant Maintenance and Management of Change systems.• Root Cause Analysis, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, and reliability methodologies.• ISA, PIP, and applicable company engineering standards.Education• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.Preferred Certifications & Training• ISA certification or relevant ISA coursework preferred.• Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) preferred.• Functional safety training preferred.• Process Safety Management experience preferred.Pay Range: $103,000 - $160,000The salary range for this position is determined by considering a variety of factors such as skills, experience, qualifications, and the location of the position.At Stepan Company our comprehensive benefits package includes:Discretionary BonusMedical, Dental, and Vision Insurance401K with MatchProfit SharingPaid Time Off (PTO)Short-Term and Long-Term Disability (STD / LTD)Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA)Health Savings Account (HSA)Paid Parental LeaveAdoption AssistanceReactions – Recognition ProgramEmployee Assistance Program (EAP)#LI-KB1 #LI-ONSITEStepan Company does not accept or retain unsolicited resumes or phone calls and/or respond to them or to any third party representing job seekers.Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.
