Patient Access Representative

$23.91 per hour
Are you a night owl who thrives under pressure in an extremely fast-paced, high-volume environment? We are seeking a compassionate, resilient, and detail-oriented Patient Access Representative to support a busy Emergency Room (ER) department in San Diego, CA. In this vital frontline role, you will be the welcoming anchor for patient families during critical situations, navigating intake logistics and securing immediate care pathways.

This position is perfect for someone who excels at building an immediate rapport with diverse groups, possesses strong electronic medical records tracking skills, and values an orderly workflow in a demanding environment. You will join a dedicated, collaborative clinical operations team where your administrative accuracy directly influences patient care experiences. Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Secure and document critical patient demographic and registration data accurately within the Epic system.

  • Register, schedule, and coordinate immediate intake documentation for inpatient, outpatient, and diagnostic services.

  • Execute thorough insurance verification, evaluate plan details, and coordinate required medical eligibility and authorizations.

  • Develop an empathetic rapport and maintain top-tier customer service with diverse patient families and staff.

  • Maintain strict adherence to productivity standards, computer data-entry rules, and HIPAA compliance laws.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years of healthcare experience, with a strict requirement for fast-paced hospital or ER department background.

  • General knowledge of managed care plans, scheduling logistics, medical billing, and medical terminology.

  • strong technical proficiency navigating personal computers, entry databases, and Epic electronic health records.

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent educational document.

  • High scheduling flexibility with minimal Requested Time Off (RTO) due to high department urgency.

  • Must clear full compliance onboarding, including background screenings, drug tests, and hospital vaccination evaluations.
