We encourage and empower our veterinary technicians to utilize their skills, have input into case management and patient care, think critically, work autonomously, further their knowledge and education, and pursue specialty certification if so desired. Duties of a veterinary technician include the following:

• Assist the veterinarian during examination of animals, providing restraint as needed in order to work safely and effectively
• Prepare and administer medications, vaccines, serums, and treatments, as prescribed by the veterinarian
• Perform routine dental cleanings on animals under the direction of the veterinarian
• Administer anesthesia to animals, under the direction of the veterinarian, and monitor animals’ responses to anesthetics so that dosages can be adjusted
• Obtain radiographs of animals with knowledge of proper positioning and techniques
• Care for and monitor the condition of animals recovering from surgery
• Perform laboratory tests on blood, urine, and feces, such as urinalyses and blood counts, to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of animal health problems
• Administer emergency first aid, such as performing emergency resuscitation or other life saving procedures
• Collect, prepare, and label samples for laboratory testing, culture, or microscopic examination
• Clean and sterilize instruments, equipment, and materials
• Provide the veterinarian with the correct equipment and instruments, as needed. - Fill prescriptions, measuring medications and labeling containers
• Prepare animals for surgery, performing such tasks as shaving surgical areas and placing IV catheters
• Maintain clean examination rooms and treatment areas
• Handle and track controlled substances for surgical patients
• Efficiently pre-medicate, induce, and intubate any and all patients as necessary
• Able to monitor anesthesia, with a clear idea of abnormal conditions
• Ensure prompt and accurate paperwork procedures are followed each day
• Communicate in effective and professional manner with clients, doctors, and other staff members
• Represent the hospital in a professional and courteous manner at all times
• Follow all written and verbally communicated departmental standard operating procedures
• Communicate with clients and assist with rechecks as needed
• Knowledge and ability to intake and release patients, including delivering post-operative instructions in a competent and friendly manner
• Train veterinary assistants, new staff members, and trainees to utilize our patient care protocols
• Able to respond appropriately during an emergency, able to take directions from a veterinarian and direct others during the event, and maintain competency during CPR procedures
• Able to glove in sterilely and assist doctor with surgery when appropriate
• Handle medical calls
• Display a positive attitude and acting as a motivating force for all staff members
• Able to efficiently run a clinic team and maintain surgical flow
• Informs Manager of developments that may affect the hospital or the department including client concerns and personnel issues
• Elevates client concerns to a manager as appropriate
• Other duties as assigned

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $19.00 - $22.00 per hour

Schedule:

• 10 hour shift
• Monday to Friday
• Weekends as needed
