Quality Inspector

The Quality Inspector plays a key role in a fast-paced manufacturing environment by performing precise inspections on plastic injection molded parts, aluminum tooling, and optical or medical components. This position focuses on ensuring that all parts meet strict dimensional, cosmetic, and functional requirements through the use of micrometers, calipers, and other inspection tools, while closely collaborating with engineering and production teams.

Responsibilities

• Perform incoming material inspection to verify that resin, aluminum, and purchased components meet all required specifications before release to production.
• Conduct in-process quality checks during molding, machining, and tooling operations to identify and address issues as early as possible.
• Carry out final part inspections by measuring critical dimensions using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, coordinate measuring machines (CMM), optical comparators, or vision systems.
• Inspect aluminum molds to confirm accuracy, surface finish, and conformity to engineering blueprints and prints.
• Complete First Article Inspection (FAI) reports for prototype and bridge-production programs to validate part quality and compliance.
• Maintain thorough documentation of inspection records, nonconformance reports (NCRs), corrective actions, and traceability information.
• Support design for manufacturability (DFM) feedback by communicating quality-related design concerns to engineering teams.
• Prepare labeled and organized customer sample shipments to ensure clear presentation and review of parts.
• Participate in root-cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance processes and overall product quality.
• Use micrometers, calipers, and other precision measurement tools to perform detailed visual and dimensional inspections on parts from plastic injection machines.

Essential Skills

• Hands-on experience with quality inspection in a manufacturing or production environment.
• Proficiency in using micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and other precision measurement instruments.
• Strong understanding of quality control and quality assurance principles and practices.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings for dimensional and cosmetic requirements.
• Skill in performing visual inspection to identify cosmetic and functional defects on molded parts and tooling.
• Experience conducting incoming material inspection, in-process checks, and final inspections.
• Capability to complete First Article Inspection (FAI) reports accurately and comprehensively.
• Competence in documenting inspection results, nonconformance reports (NCRs), corrective actions, and traceability records.
• Familiarity with using CMM, optical comparators, or vision systems for dimensional verification.
• Attention to detail and strong organizational skills to manage multiple inspections and documentation tasks.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working with plastic injection molding, aluminum tooling, or optical/medical components.
• Experience supporting design for manufacturability (DFM) by providing feedback to engineering teams.
• Prior involvement in root-cause analysis and continuous improvement or process optimization initiatives.
• Comfort collaborating with cross-functional teams, including engineering and production personnel.
• Ability to prepare and organize customer sample shipments with clear labeling and documentation.

Work Environment

The work environment centers on a rapid-turn manufacturing facility focused on prototype and low-volume injection-molded parts, aluminum tooling, and optical or medical components. You will work hands-on with plastic injection machines and use precision measurement equipment such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, CMMs, optical comparators, and vision systems. The setting is fast-paced and detail-oriented, requiring accurate documentation and frequent interaction with engineering and production teams. Attire is typical for a manufacturing and inspection environment, with appropriate safety and protective gear as required by shop conditions.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Centreville, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $24.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
