Engineer, Engineer Associate, or Engineer Representative - Distribution Engineering (Work location: Canton, GA) - 1 Vacancy Georgia Power, a subsidiary of Southern Company, is currently seeking an Engineer, Engineering Associate, or Engineering Representative for the Canton distribution team. Work Location: The selected candidate will be assigned to projects supporting the Canton headquarters. This position requires an individual who can provide superior customer service and project management skills, and who can prepare and schedule construction of jobs to meet committed service dates. Responsibilities include design, estimating, and coordinating construction for multiple overhead and underground construction projects. The candidate will write and execute switching orders to maintain and operate the distribution system for reliability, process all documentation in accordance with compliance requirements, and participate in the on‑call trouble supervision rotation, available after business hours for local, out‑of‑town, and out‑of‑state trouble and storm restoration. Job Summary

• Design, estimate, and coordinate construction for overhead and underground distribution projects.
• Write and execute switching orders.
• Process documentation in compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Participate in on‑call trouble supervision rotation.
• Communicate with customers, governing authority representatives, engineers, corporate partners, and line crew personnel.

Job Qualifications Education and Experience for an Engineer, Engineer Associate, or Engineer Representative Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (ABET accredited school) OR Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology OR Bachelor's Degree in Math or Science OR Professional Engineer's License (PE) in lieu of the above bachelor's degree Previous Distribution Engineering Experience is a plus Distribution and/or related Engineering experience with a power utility company is a plus Education and Experience for an Engineer Representative position A two‑year technical degree, or a four‑year degree in a non‑technical field, or an EUT Certificate with two years of utility experience (preferred but not required) Previous Distribution Engineering Experience is a plus Distribution and/or related Engineering experience with a power utility company is a plus Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Proficient with MS Office products and other related engineering software systems Strong technical engineering skills and understanding of power systems Knowledge of general engineering and construction principles Knowledge of electrical system operations, distribution systems, and underground and overhead construction practices Prior experience in writing and executing switching orders Working knowledge of ARMS, JETS, GIS, Socket, DistView, TCMS Web, NJUNS Knowledge of Distribution Bulletins, Engineering Handbook/Specifications, Distribution Operating Procedures, ARC Flash Requirements, Metering Blue Book, Consistency Manual, and Financial and Business goals Ability to prioritize and organize work to manage multiple projects and meet strict deadlines Excellent project management skills that lead to desired results Ability to work with customers and others as a team member Effective oral and written communication skills Good attitude and ability to provide excellent customer service both internally and externally Working knowledge of NESC Must have a valid driver’s license Other Requirements Must have a safe work record and successfully follow safe work practices & policies for a Safety Excellence environment Must demonstrate the "Our Values" behaviors: Safety First, Unquestionable Trust, Superior Performance, and Total Commitment Pursue high standards for safety and customer service Self‑motivated and directed Take personal responsibility for distribution projects and challenges; follow through on all aspects of assignments to ensure quality completion Must be able to build positive relationships and work well with diverse groups, tailoring communication methods appropriately for customers, covered employees, supervision, and management Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of Georgia Power and Southern Company distribution construction practices, guidelines, and procedures This position requires the use of a Georgia Power fleet vehicle Must have at least one year of verifiable driving experience; hold a valid driver’s license for the class vehicle to be operated (driving permits are not considered a valid driver’s license) Must have no revocation of driving privileges within the prior 36 months, no convictions of major traffic violations within the prior 12 months, and no pending charges for a major traffic violation at the time of application Must consent to continuous monitoring of your Motor Vehicle Record Southern Company is an equal opportunity employer where an applicant's qualifications are considered without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, genetic information, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other basis prohibited by law.
