Senior Tax Accountant

Senior Tax Accountant position is based in AVI-SPL’s Tampa Executive Headquarters and supports the organization’s US and International compliance with state and local as well as foreign jurisdictional tax authorities. Areas of focus include sales and use tax, property tax, VAT/GST tax, licenses/permits and other miscellaneous reporting requirements. Additional responsibilities will include the preparation of tax account reconciliations. The position requires strong accounting and analytical skills and working closely with other AVI-SPL employees and business units, both in accounting and other functional areas, as well as interacting with government agencies. This position reports directly to the Senior Tax Manager. Duties: The following are essential duties and responsibilities for this position: Prepare or review monthly filings and payment requests for sales tax returns Prepare required VAT/GST returns including review of purchases for input tax credits Prepare and process accruals of use tax when not included on vendor invoices Prepare or review account reconciliations for tax accounts Review the setup requirements in our applications and ERP system for customers, materials, and invoicing to ensure customers are invoiced accurately Ensure that resale exemption certificates for customers are obtained and catalogued Assist with providing manufacturing/exemption certificates to vendors to exempt tax on purchases where applicable Track and manage license filings (permits, business licenses etc.) in applicable jurisdictions Track and manage property tax filings and payments Gather information and prepare responses for audits Understand and monitor the continually changing rules and regulations in each of the jurisdictions that AVI-SPL operates or ships product Maintain documentation of AVI-SPL requirements by jurisdiction and processes to comply with all state, local and foreign jurisdictional regulations Identify areas of potential noncompliance, develop solutions, and implement changes to comply with regulations as set forth by taxing authorities Skills and Qualifications: Experience with indirect tax state and local tax compliance Experience with VAT/GST tax compliance Experience with SAGE will be helpful, but is not required Excellent accounting and analytical skills Experience retrieving and working with data Experience researching tax laws and regulations Proficient with tax software applications Proficient in Excel and Word Strong team player who can work across multiple business functions Ability to analyze and solve problems, results oriented Able to work under deadline driven due dates Organized and detail oriented, adaptable to change, excellent communication skills Education and Experience: Undergraduate degree in accounting or closely related field, Advanced degree would be a plus 3 to 5 years relevant work experience in public accounting or industry, specific to job description CPA or CPA eligible would-be a plus, but not required Working Conditions: Based in Tampa, FL with limited travel requirements. Hybrid work environment.
