Accountant/Bookkeeper

Seeking an experienced Accountant/Bookkeeper for a position with an engineering consulting firm in Charleston, SC. In this role, you will manage day-to-day bookkeeping activities, assist with payroll, input costs associated with project accounting, AP/AR, prep company financials for an external CPA firm, and general administrative duties. Key Responsibilities: Manage accounts payable, including invoice entry, coding to appropriate projects and cost centers, and scheduling vendor payments. Oversee accounts receivable, preparing and issuing client invoices, recording receipts, and following up on outstanding balances. Perform daily data entry into QuickBooks Online, ensuring all transactions are recorded correctly and supported by documentation. Maintain and reconcile the general ledger, including month-end closing entries and account reconciliations. Assist with preparation of financial reports and project accounting summaries for management review. Support compliance with GAAP and local tax regulations by organizing records, supporting filings, and responding to auditor or CPA requests. Key Requirements: Proven experience as a bookkeeper handling payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable in a construction company or engineering firm (or another industry where job cost accounting was required) Strong proficiency with QuickBooks Online for day-to-day bookkeeping and reporting. Demonstrated experience with job costing and project accounting, including tracking expenses and labor by project. High level of data entry accuracy, with strong attention to detail and ability to spot and resolve discrepancies.
