Job Description: Leak Tester

Position Summary

The Leak Tester is responsible for testing diesel fuel tanks and hydraulic reservoirs to confirm they are free of leaks prior to shipment, and for performing TIG weld repairs on steel, stainless steel, and aluminum to correct any leaks identified during testing. This role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to read prints and follow written work instructions, and a working knowledge of hand tools and thread types used throughout the fabrication process.

• Perform leak testing on diesel fuel tanks and hydraulic reservoirs in accordance with established work instructions and quality standards.
• Identify the source of any leaks found and perform TIG weld repairs on steel, stainless steel, and aluminum to correct them.
• Read and interpret prints to verify tanks and reservoirs conform to specifications.
• Follow written work instructions accurately and consistently.
• Use basic hand tools and apply working knowledge of various thread pitches and thread types (e.g., NPT, UNC, UNF, metric) when inspecting and servicing fittings and ports.
• Maintain accurate and complete records of test results.
• Report identified defects or recurring issues to Quality and Production as needed.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

Working Conditions

• Manufacturing/shop floor environment.
• Must be able to stand for the entire shift.
• Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs on a regular basis.
• Exposure to welding light/fumes, noise, and typical fabrication shop conditions; required PPE must be worn at all times.

Qualifications / Requirements

• Basic knowledge of TIG welding; must be able to produce acceptable TIG welds on steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to read prints and follow work instructions.
• Working knowledge of basic hand tools and various thread pitches/types.
• Must pass a basic shop math and print-reading test as a prerequisite for hire.
• Ability to lift 75 lbs and stand for the duration of the shift.
