Utilities Billing Clerk

This position performs a variety of billing functions for the Utilities Billing Division of the Finance Department, provides information to customers, processes various billed services and accounts and complies records of charges for services rendered. In accordance with Article 24 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City of Fort Lauderdale and Teamsters Local Union 769, for posting purposes this open-competitive job posting shall be considered as a simultaneous internal and external posting (it is open to both internal City employees and external applicants). Additionally, this job classification is subject to the terms and conditions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City of Fort Lauderdale and Teamsters Local Union 769.

• Initiates and performs the billing process for water, sewer, storm water and other charges billed by the City
• Prepares and produces monthly and annual bills for mailing to customers showing an itemized account of the amount owed to the City
• Provides customer service by answering telephones and responding to account inquiries
• Receives and processes requests to open, close, transfer, or temporarily suspend utility services
• Resolves customer billing inquiries, complaints, and issues via phone, email, and fax machine
• Reviews accounts for accuracy and completeness
• Sets up and monitors new accounts.
• Performs related work as required

Minimum requirements:

1. High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalency.
2. One (1) to three (3) years of general clerical work or customer service experience.
3. Additional qualifying experience or completion of coursework at an accredited college or university in a job-related field, may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience or education.
4. Must have excellent phone and verbal communication skills and strong data entry skills.
5.
