Job Title: Hockey Instructor, Level 1 Pay Details: The starting hourly rate for this position is $21.00 per hour. The Rinks develops hockey programs within our local area and beyond. Our program’s success begins with providing our guests with a great experience at our facilities. Hockey Instructors are the instrumental staff responsible for upholding our Rinks standards while making the guest experience great. Hockey Instructors should be dynamic, keep players engaged, organized, and safe, and ensure that the players have fun. Hockey Instructors, Level 1 are responsible for assisting on and off the ice and teaching at skill development stations for all Hockey Development programs. Responsibilities Assist Learn to Play Hockey programming on and off-ice activities, including check-in, assisting players with gear, rink supplies set up, and other assigned duties Assist Hockey Initiation programs, including teaching skill development stations Support all Rinks hockey programs and assist skill development for all assigned Rinks programs, including rec-league clinics and practices Be a positive ambassador for the sport of hockey and The Rinks Hockey Coaches/Instructors are responsible for assisting at Hockey Initiation, Ducks Learn to Play Hockey, Score a Goal, Little Ducks, Hockey Camps, and coach Rink teams as assigned Hockey Instructors should be at the Rink at least 30 minutes before scheduled sessions and be ready to go onto the ice 15 minutes before players take the ice Meet with the Head Hockey Coach/ Instructor before scheduled sessions to review on ice plan Interact with players and parents before taking the ice Assist with ice set up, pucks, nets, etc. Set a standard for development by using positive reinforcement when coaching Stop and teach, be present and friendly, interact with all participants, and make it fun Stay with your assigned skill station and keep the group organized Be familiar with Rinks “Next Steps” Programs Make sure all interactions with players are fun and productive Attend monthly Rinks “Power Play” team building sessions Other duties as assigned Skills Minimum 18 years of age Must have 3 years of hockey experience Can demonstrate on-ice hockey skills Meet all USA Hockey and CAHA screening requirements and hold a Level 1 or 2 USA Hockey coaching credential Must be able to ice skate and lift and carry up to 25 pounds while skating Excellent interpersonal skills and strong leadership skills Able to excel in a team atmosphere Demonstrate a fun, energetic, and outgoing personality Organized; can multi-task and solve problems in a fast-paced work environment Flexible schedule; must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required Team player who enjoys working in a team environment Have knowledge and a clear understanding of the USA Hockey American Development Model Association Program (ADM) Possess a valid driver’s license, automobile liability insurance, and a good driving record Customer service oriented Previous marketing and promotional event experience preferred Hardworking, detail-oriented, and results-oriented Project a professional image that reflects our Rinks company values Passion for teaching Possesses dynamic characteristics – energetic, assertive, driven, enthusiastic, and fun Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Education - High School Diploma or Equivalent Certifications Required – USA Hockey Certification, Safe Sport, and other CAHA state requirements Experience Required - 1-2 Year MR2026 The Rinks Development Program launched in 2009, and consists of seven local hockey and skating facilities throughout Southern California: six ice rinks - Anaheim Ice, Lakewood Ice, KHS Ice, Yorba Linda Ice, Poway Ice and Great Park Ice, as well as one inline facility - Irvine Inline. The Rinks offer a variety of hockey and skating programs for participants of all ages and ability levels. The Rinks is home to thousands of youth and adult hockey players as well as recreational skaters to competitive Olympic figure skaters.
