Career Development Manager

Job Description The Career Development Manager oversees the student’s career growth, meticulously managing initiatives to ensure that students are not only well-prepared for their immediate roles but also equipped for future higher-level opportunities. A key focus of this role will be building and maintaining a comprehensive library of resources to be utilized by students in Tier 1 jobs, the Success Network, an AI job coach, employers, and volunteers that help students prepare for the workforce. These resources will support the success of key programs including Career Chat, English Chat, Student Societies, and Career Webinars, all of which fall under the oversight of this position. A key focus of this role will be building and maintaining a comprehensive library of resources to be utilized by students in Tier 1 jobs, the Success Network, an AI job coach, employers, and volunteers that help students prepare for the workforce. These resources will support the success of key programs including Career Chat, English Chat, Student Societies, and Career Webinars, all of which fall under the oversight of this position. The manager will play a pivotal role in shaping students' professional trajectories, working toward a future where they are positioned for success in increasingly advanced roles within their chosen fields. This position requires a dynamic individual capable of coordinating efforts with our data steward and relationship manager, employer relations representatives, Success Network, CES Schools, and external partners to facilitate job opportunities for students. Responsibilities Resource Library Development Build and curate a robust, adaptable library of resources focused on student work-readiness and professional development. Ensure resources are aligned with needs of the students in Tier 1 jobs, the Success Network, an AI job coach, employers, and volunteers Create a structure for maintaining, updating, and evaluating resource effectiveness across use cases. Support integration of resources into all student-facing programs, including the Boost Program, Career Chat, English Chat, Student Societies, and Career Webinars. Program Oversight Oversee and continuously improve programs designed to increase student work-readiness and professional engagement: Boost Program Career Chat English Chat Student Societies Career Webinars Ensure alignment between these programs and the goals of the student experience, Career Services, and employer expectations. Utilize feedback and outcomes from these programs to refine the resource library and student development strategy. Employer Feedback Implementation Develop a systematic approach for gathering feedback from employers regarding the performance and preparedness of students. Conduct regular check-ins with employer relations representatives to understand their perspectives on student contributions and areas for improvement. Work collaboratively with the employer relations representatives to implement feedback loops, ensuring continuous improvement in the quality of job placements. Utilize employer insights to inform training programs and refine library resources, aligning student development with industry expectations. Student Onboarding Coordinate with the Success Network, including mentors, missionaries, and instructors, to facilitate the onboarding process for new students. Ensure all students complete and maintain their career profiles across relevant platforms while effectively tracking participation and outcomes. Student Qualification Identify students eligible for and seeking for work, directing them towards suitable opportunities. Develop processes and workflows showing the path for students to move from enrollment to work-study jobs to higher-level positions. Within workflows, show paths of progression for students who might not immediately qualify for positions, paths for students who come into BYU-Pathway with sufficient skills for more advanced positions, and paths for various levels of work-readiness. Student Development And Progression Oversee the virtual career center, managing all digital information sources, counseling services, employment groups, and coordination with the Success Network. Maintain and enhance a core work-readiness program to enhance students' professional skills. When students are prepared, develop processes to facilitate handoff to degree-specific verticals. Placement Coordination Work closely with third-party social staffers, funding sources, and Success Network partners to ensure successful placement of selected students in jobs. Collaborate with the product team responsible for the development of placement platforms, ensuring alignment with the organization's goals and student needs. Provide input on platform features and functionalities, offering insights into the specific requirements of career development initiatives. Conduct regular assessments to verify that the platform is effectively meeting the demands of students, employers, and internal stakeholders. Goal Setting And Reporting Systems Establish measurable goals for job placement success and student progression. Collaborate with the Institutional Research department to establish PowerBI reporting systems for tracking goals and monitoring student progress through job responsibilities and badging. Implement a tracking mechanism to monitor the number of students actively participating in jobs with a specific breakdown by employer. Regularly analyze and report on key metrics related to student enrollment by employer, providing insights that contribute to strategic decision-making and program optimization. Qualifications Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in business management or a related field. Minimum of 5 years of experience within higher education administration or public management. Skills To Be Successful Communication Skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders, including students, employers, and internal team members. Project Management: Strong organizational and project management skills to handle multiple responsibilities, set priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Collaboration: Proven ability to collaborate with various stakeholders, including the Career Advisory Board, the Employer Relations Manager, the Success Network, and external partners, to achieve common goals. Relationship Building: Demonstrated skills in building and maintaining relationships, especially with employers, to gather feedback, address concerns, and foster positive partnerships. Data Analysis: Familiarity with data analysis tools, such as PowerBI, to track and analyze program metrics, student progress, and employer engagement. Adaptability: Ability to adapt to evolving program needs, industry trends, and feedback, making necessary adjustments to enhance the overall effectiveness of the career development program. Education and Counseling: Knowledge or experience in career services, education, or counseling, with an understanding of student development and career readiness. Quality Assurance: Attention to detail and a commitment to ensuring the quality of career development platforms and related programs to meet the needs of students and employers. Tech Savvy: Comfort with technology, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with digital platforms and tools relevant to career development and program management. Feedback Management: Proficiency in managing and implementing feedback loops, both from students and employers, to continuously improve program offerings. Leadership: Leadership skills to guide students through the work-readiness badging program and lead collaborative efforts with internal and external partners. Networking: Strong networking skills to expand employer partnerships, engage with the Success Network, and enhance the overall ecosystem supporting student career development. Cultural Awareness: A high level of cultural awareness and sensitivity, with the ability to engage effectively with a diverse student population and navigate various cultural nuances. This includes understanding and respecting differences in backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives, fostering an inclusive environment conducive to the success of all students in the career development program.
