POSITION OVERVIEW

As Director of accounting your roles and responsibilities will include:


The client is seeking an experienced Director of Accounting to lead its corporate accounting and financial reporting function. Reporting to the Executive Director - Controller , this role will oversee accounting operations, support the company's expanding franchise business, drive process improvements, and partner closely with Finance, Operations, Franchising, and the parent company. The ideal candidate is a CPA with strong leadership experience in a multi-unit or franchise environment and a proven track record in financial reporting, internal controls, and accounting systems.
Key Responsibilities

• Lead the corporate accounting function, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
• Oversee month-end and year-end close processes and maintain compliance with GAAP and internal controls.
• Manage internal accounting and reporting while collaborating with the parent company to ensure reporting alignment.
• Oversee franchise accounting activities and develop scalable accounting processes to support franchise growth and new store openings.
• Partner with Operations, Finance, and Franchising to improve financial visibility and business performance.
• Drive process improvements by leveraging technology and automation to increase efficiency and accuracy.
• Support ERP and accounting system implementations, upgrades, and reporting enhancements.
• Develop, mentor, and manage accounting staff, including two direct reports.
• Ensure strong internal controls and continuous improvement of accounting processes.

QUALIFICATIONS

Most importantly, you need to be a passionate Director of accounting who enjoys his work and is considered to be one of the best within your organization. The ideal Director of accounting would be someone with deep experience in many (if not all) of the following:
Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is required.
• 10-15+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Strong leadership experience in corporate accounting.
• Deep knowledge of financial reporting, month-end close, GAAP, and internal controls.
• Experience working in a multi-unit, retail, restaurant, hospitality, or franchise environment.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a matrixed organization.

Preferred Qualifications

• Big Four or national public accounting experience.
• Experience with franchise accounting.
• Experience participating in ERP or accounting system implementations.
• Experience working within or reporting to a parent company structure.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
